Abstract:
A spherical plain bearing includes an inner ring defining a convex outer surface and an outer ring defining a concave inner surface. The outer ring encircles the inner ring and one or more of the outer surface and the inner surface have a plurality of pockets formed therein. A solid graphite plug is disposed in one or more of the plurality of pockets and slidingly engages the outer surface and/or the inner surface.
Abstract:
A load slot bearing system for a mounting system for a gearbox on a geared turbofan engine includes a load slot bearing assembly having a cobalt alloy inner member and a precipitation-hardenable alloy outer member. The inner member defines an outer engagement surface and the outer member defines an inner engagement surface slidably and rotatably engaged with the inner engagement surface. One of the outer engagement surface or the inner engagement surface has boron diffused therein. The load slot bearing system includes first and second slots extending inward from a face defined by the outer member, the second slot being positioned generally diametrically opposite the first slot. A first element is located in the bore of the inner member of the load slot bearing assembly and is connected to the inner member. A second element is connected to the outer member of the load slot bearing assembly.
Abstract:
A sealed spherical bearing is disclosed, having a race and a ball disposed therein. A seal between the race and the ball inhibits the ingress of contaminants into the spherical bearing. The seal has a first edge. The first edge is secured to a retainer, which is press-fit into an annular groove defined by the race. The ball and the race are rotatable relative to each other. A second edge of the seal is seated in a second annular groove defined the ball. A lubricant is disposed inside the second annular groove. A convex surface of the ball and a concave surface of the race form a sliding surface. A self-lubricating treatment is applied to one or more of the sliding surfaces.
Abstract:
A bearing includes an inner race member having an end surface. An outer race member is disposed about the inner race member. The outer race member has an internal shoulder for engaging the end surface of the inner race member. The inner and outer race members are configured to define a raceway between them and to define a snap ring seat between them. There are cylindrical rollers in the raceway and a snap ring in the snap ring seat. The bearing may be provided as a follower head on a cam follower or may be eccentrically mounted on a drive shaft to serve as a cam. A bearing can be assembled by inserting the inner race member into the outer race member, disposing cylindrical rollers in the raceway and disposing a snap ring in the snap ring seat.
Abstract:
An actuation system for deploying and retracting a lift assisting device of a wing of an aircraft, is presented. The actuation system includes a track pivotally coupled to the lift assisting device, a shaft rotating in response to flight control signals to deploy or retract the lift assisting device, means for actuating the lift assisting device between a retracted position and a deployed position along an arcuate path, a plurality of track roller bearings and a plurality of side roller bearings. The roller bearings rotatably contact the track to guide the track along the arcuate path. The track roller bearings are comprised of an outer ring, a split inner ring and liners disposed between bearing surfaces of the outer and the inner rings. The split inner ring is configured for accommodating deflection and bending of a mounting pin coupling the track roller bearing in proximity to the track.
Abstract:
A shell-like insert made from a low-friction material is useful in a coupler for railway cars. The coupler may have a male connector on one car and a female connector on the other. The connectors conform to each other and provide a clearance space therebetween. The male connector may include a ball stud and the female connector may provide a socket for the ball. The insert conforms to the clearance space and is made from a low-friction material, such as PTFE, a filament wound composite or an epoxy-impregnated PTFE and glass-fiber material, or the like. A railway car assembly may include two cars joined by a coupler as described herein. The cars may be joined by providing a rear follower and a front follower in the female connector to provide the socket, and positioning an insert in the socket between the ball and one or both followers.
Abstract:
A spherical plain bearing has an outer ring having a concave first bearing surface and an inner ring having a convex second bearing surface slidably disposed to the first bearing surface. The inner ring member also has a third bearing surface for engaging a pin to be mounted in the bearing. At least one bearing surface has a lubrication groove, and one of the outer ring and the inner ring is made from 440 stainless steel while the other is made from a precipitation-hardened martensitic stainless steel. Alternatively, the outer ring and the inner ring may be made from steel and a copper-beryllium alloy. In yet another alternative, the bearing need not have a lubrication groove, but may have a lubrication liner on the third bearing surface. A dropped hinge mechanism for a flap on a fixed wing aircraft has a hinge that includes such a bearing.
Abstract:
A tandem set of angular contact ball bearings each having an inner ring, an outer ring and balls therebetween, wherein each bearing contains balls that are spaced from each other by slug ball separators. A rotary wing aircraft rotor head assembly includes a rotor head member, a plurality of spindles attached to the head member at equal interval around the center of the head member, and a stack of ball bearings mounted on each spindle. Each bearing has an inner ring, an outer ring, and a plurality of balls between the inner ring and the outer ring, and slug ball separators between adjacent balls, and there is a mounting collar on the ball bearings.
Abstract:
A bearing arrangement includes a hinge pin and a ring rotatably mounted on an outer surface of the hinge pin. The hinge pin has a spherical convex surface on which a spherical concave surface of the ring can ride. In a bearing having a pin and a ring that is rotatable about an outer surface of the pin, the pin has a spherical convex surface that extends around an outer surface of the pin, and the ring has a corresponding spherical concave surface that extends around an inner surface of the ring. In a method for articulably mounting an axle to a vehicle, a ring having a spherical concave surface is assembled around a hinge pin having a spherical convex surface such that the spherical concave surface and the spherical convex surface engage. A split housing is assembled around the outer surfaces of the ring.
Abstract:
An anti-wear composite structure includes an anti-wear layer that has a wear surface opposite an adhesive receiving surface and a thermosetting resin applied to the adhesive receiving surface. The thermosetting resin includes a reactive adhesive configured to bond the anti-wear composite structure to a substrate at an ambient temperature band via pressure-sensitive adhesion. The thermosetting resin has an onset to cure in the ambient temperature band and has a peak cure temperature greater than the ambient temperature band to mechanically and chemically bond the anti-wear composite structure to a substrate.
