Abstract:
A separating device comprises an endless carrier belt which supports a filter belt. Suction boxes for drawing off filtrate are placed on the side of the carrier belt. The carrier belt protrudes laterally into the continuous slot of the vacuum box. In a large separating installation with long carrier belts and filter belts lateral displacements of the carrier belt occur during operation, whereby sealing becomes a problem. These problems are resolved according to the invention in that the suction box has a sealing member connecting onto the side edge of the carrier belt and this sealing member is displaceable laterally.
Abstract:
A vacuum or gas pressure clamp prevents movement of an elongate filter cloth used in a horizontal vacuum filter. The clamp includes a support frame and a planar supporting device having a perforated support surface for supporting the filter cloth. The vacuum clamp is mounted on the frame and is adapted for connection to a vacuum source so that vacuum can be applied to numerous holes in the support surface. An imperforate sealing sheet extends over the support surface and in close proximity thereto. The filter cloth can be drawn between the supporting device and the sealing sheet. A vacuum can be applied to the filter cloth in order to prevent its movement in the longitudinal direction. Preferably the support surface forms a rectangular grid comprising rows of closely spaced holes. This grid is surrounded by a sealing surface. In the gas pressure clamp, an enclosure extends around the supporting device and the sealing sheet and a positive air pressure can be provided in this enclosure. In this version, the perforated support surface can be vented to atmosphere.
Abstract:
An apparatus used to separate solid-phase materials from rinse water containing soluable constituents dissolved from rock or ore bodies by percolation of water therethrough is described. The apparatus includes an upper funnel and a bottom receptacle as well as a central passage member disposed therebetween. The upper funnel includes a perforated bottom and a central standpipe. The bottom receptacle includes a pair of vacuum tubes. The central member includes a plurality of filter members. When in use, filtration through some or all of the filters can be aided by applying a suction to the vacuum tubes.
Abstract:
A disposable vacuum assisted filter funnel for filtering fluids into bottles. The bottle top filter forms a vacuum dependent seal with the mouth of the bottle. When fluid is introduced into the bottle top filter, the evacuated bottle draws the fluid through the filter into the bottle. The bottle top filter lacks a vacuum plenum between the vacuum source and the bottle. The bottle top filter may be manufactured from one molded piece.
Abstract:
A vacuum filter is provided for vacuum flow filtration through a filter bed of water from a swimming pool including flow from the pool and from the gutter of the swimming pool, and controlling water recirculation capacity to accommodate varying gutter flow, comprising a tank; a filter bed of particulate material in the tank; a first inlet line communicating the swimming pool with the tank for gravity flow into the tank and maintaining a predetermined level of water in the tank in relation to a level of water in the swimming pool, thereby providing a head of water for gravity backwash flow through the filter bed; a second inlet line communicating the tank with the perimeter gutter for the swimming pool for gravity flow into the tank; a third inlet line communicating the tank with the perimeter gutter for the swimming pool for suction flow into the tank; an outlet line communicating the tank with the water recirculation system; a pump drawing a vacuum downstream of the filter bed and recirculating filtered water to the swimming pool; valves controlling flow into the tank via the first, second and third inlet lines; and at least one water level-responsive sensor sensing and directly responding to the level of water in the tank and adjusting the valve controlling suction flow, to increase gutter drain flow to the tank sufficiently to prevent gutter water flooding back from the gutter to the pool.
Abstract:
A filter belt is progressed stepwise over successive vacuum boxes by a guide roller at the forward end of the upper run being extended from its retracted position to its full line position while vacuum to the boxes is shut off. A displaceable roller permits this by taking up any slack in the belt and return movement of the belt upon retraction of the foremost guide roller is prevented by a unidirectional arrangement in at least one of the rollers guiding the lower return run of the belt. Slurry is fed onto the belt by a first nozzle, optional wash liquor is fed onto the resultant filter cake by a second nozzle and optional recirculated wash liquor is fed by a third nozzle all under the influence of a control which provides for such feed only for a predetermined period of time during the actual movement of the belt.
Abstract:
A centrifugal separator has a rotary cylindrical basket on which a cake of solids builds up during rotation of the basket. The charge of the basket is controlled by a sensor sensing the thickness of the cake and a vertical manifold sprays a wash fluid on the cake. The washing of the cake is improved by mounting the manifold on a mobile support and linking this support to the sensor so that the position of the manifold is a function of the thickness of the cake.
Abstract:
Apparatus for treating samples comprising a sample holding element; a wash trough removably positioned over the sample holding element; transfer tubes or conduits in sample receiving contact with the sample holding element, extending through the wash trough to a transfer head positioned over a vacuum manifold which elements, in combination, deliver sample from the sample holding element directly to a plurality of filter discs in said vacuum manifold means. A cutter block is positioned between the transfer head and manifold. The apparatus is designed and arranged so that the cutter block will simultaneously cut and position a plurality of filter paper discs on said filter discs. A plurality of individual samples can be treated rapidly while minimizing the amount of filter paper used with assurance of quantitative sample transfer.
Abstract:
A slurry of cellulosic material is diluted to a flowable consistency and subjected to a pressure differential on a permeable surface to increase the slurry consistency to a value between the consistency of the diluted slurry and the consistency of the slurry prior to dilution thereby forming a mat of cellulosic material on the permeable surface. The liquid and solids which pass through the permeable surface as a result of the pressure differential are recycled for use as slurry diluent, and to the mat of cellulosic material, while the mat remains on the permeable surface and subject to the pressure differential, is countercurrently applied, in a plurality of treatment stages, a treating liquid, such as a wash liquid, including application of a fresh treating liquid to said mat in the last stage of said treatment stages, whereby the treating liquid displaces at least a portion of liquid present in said mat from said mat and through the permeable surface in each treatment stage. The electrical conductivity of the liquid displaced from said mat in the last stage of said treatment stages is measured, and the amount of fresh treating liquid applied in the last stage of said treatment stages is adjusted in response to the deviation, from a predetermined norm, of the measured value of electrical conductivity of only the liquid displaced in the last stage of said treatment stages.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for subjecting a finely divided solid to a series of processing steps on a single horizontal vacuum belt filter wherein the processing includes a liquid-solid mass transfer function, such as ion-exchange, carried out by percolation, and this step is followed by at least one step, such as washing, in which rapid passage of a large volume of liquid through the solid takes place. The method is used to ion-exchange zeolitic microspheres in the production of a fluid cracking catalyst.
