The current inducing module preferably includes a magnet and coil arrangement. The magnet is associated with a rotating element of the engine such that the magnet passes by the coil as the engine element rotates. The current that is induced in the coil is handled using current regulating components to control the amount of power supplied to the chargeable power source. The invention provides a way to electrically power components associated with devices that do not have a battery.

In this way, a stable and high precision control over the full frequency bandwidth is possible with high efficiency.

More specifically, the regulator circuit utilizes a feedback control loop and a series of FET to produce a continuous or pulsed output of predetermined duration and/or amplitude. Shielded voltage dividers are provided to accurately measure the voltage output and produce feedback control signals. The shielded voltage divider includes a plurality of paired conductive members disposed along the length of a resistor, which paired conductive members separate the resistor into separate portions and provide alternating first and second pairs of conductive members along the length of the resistor. Still further, a capacitor series is provided, with each capacitor connected between adjacent first and second pairs of conductive members, and wherein the dynamic impedance of the capacitor series is less than the dynamic impedance of the resistor.

The apparatus includes a DC supply circuit utilizing a first feedback control loop and silicon controlled rectifiers to regulate the output of a high-voltage transformer. The apparatus further includes a regulator circuit utilizing a second feedback control loop and a series of FETs to product a continuous or pulsed output of precise magnitude and phase. Shielded voltage dividers are provided to accurately measure the voltage outputs and produce feedback control signals. Discharge modules on the high-voltage cables connecting the power supply to the X-ray tube discharge any capacitive voltage remaining on the cables between pulses, so as to eliminate any tail on the output waveform.

A timing generator for use with multi-phase controlled rectifier systems is disclosed in which a ramp signal is produced in phase synchronization with the power source and compared with the value of a command signal. The command signal is indicative of the desired SCR ignition angle. A sequencing circuit, having a finite number of output states is cyclically stepped from one state to the next by a comparator. The sequencing circuit couples a source of SCR-gating pulses to the appropriate SCR in accordance with its state and with a predetermined pattern of SCR ignitions which characterize the multi-phase source.One aspect of the invention provides the multiplexing of the comparator output whereby the command signal is offset by 60.degree. (electrical) after each comparator transition to set up conditions for the next transition.A further aspect of the invention provides for the generation of an alternate ramp, 180.degree. (electrical) out of phase with the foregoing ramp, and selectively applied to the comparator during periods in which the first ramp is discontinuous. The interrelationship of the 60.degree. interval associated with the command signal offset, and the 180.degree. relationship between the two ramps is advantageously utilized in the repeated offsetting of the command signal.

A back corona detector that reduces current flow to the plates of an electrostatic precipitator when a corona occurs between a plate and the dust layer that forms on the plate thereby minimizing the corona condition. The ramping voltage in a transformer/rectifier set under usual operating conditions will vary proportionally with current flow. At the onset of a back corona condition, a comparator senses a sudden increase in current with respect to the voltage indicating that the current is being consumed to maintain the corona rather than providing for particulate precipitation. A current set-back circuit is then pulsed periodically so that the current is continuously reduced until the voltage/current relationship is maintained at the knee of the voltage/current curve.
