Abstract:
An image reading apparatus capable of accurately detecting abnormal pixels caused by a contaminant such as dirt, stain, or flaw on a moving document reading glass being read. An image processing unit of the image reading apparatus performs a first abnormal pixel detection process to detect pixel signals representing abnormal pixels and output from image sensors for respective colors when a reading unit reads a guide plate in a main scanning direction in a state before an original passes through a moving document reading position, performs a second abnormal pixel detection process to detect pixel signals representing abnormal pixels and output from the image sensors when an original being conveyed is read by the reading unit in the main scanning direction, and detects a main scanning direction of abnormal pixels based on results of these detection processes.

Abstract:
A carriage motor which is a heat generating device is arranged next to a CIS in a scanner unit. The carriage motor drives respective transport rollers of an ADF unit via a gear system as well. The scanner unit makes a white reference board be read so as to obtain white reference data, and obtains black reference data more frequently than the white reference data, e.g., in a continuous process for reading a document. As a CIS module continues a reading process, the black reference data changes as being affected by a change in temperature in the CIS module, etc. The scanner unit deals with such a change in the black reference data by obtaining the black reference data more frequently.
Abstract:
An image processing apparatus includes an acquisition unit configured to acquire luminance information of a white reference member by reading the white reference member with an image reading unit including a sensor while rotating the image reading unit in units of a predetermined angle, and a correction unit configured to correct the luminance information acquired by the acquisition unit using a correction coefficient predetermined for each rotation angle of the image reading unit.
Abstract:
An image reading apparatus corrects a deviation of a reading position of a document to accurately correct a luminance intensity distribution variation. Light is radiated to a shading plate (102) provided at a portion different from a reading position (luminance-intensity-distribution-variation correction reading line 103b) for a document (P) while displacing an illumination unit (101), and shading correction is carried out based on a luminance value of reflection of the light. Light is radiated to the reading position before the document (P) is transported thereto while displacing the illumination unit (101) in the same direction as a displacement direction of the illumination unit (101) at a time of performing shading correction. The luminance value of the reflected light at this time is compared with the luminance value after the shading correction to generate luminance-value reference data before the reading of the document.
Abstract:
In an image reading apparatus, based on image data obtained by reading a white image, detection is performed of an abnormal pixel based on a foreign substance adhering to a reading position of an original and data indicating a position of the abnormal pixel is outputted, then image data obtained by reading an original is corrected based on that data, and detection of the abnormal pixel is carried out immediately prior to reading of a first original, and a correction process based on data indicating a position of the abnormal pixel is carried out on image data obtained by reading a second original following on from the first original.
Abstract:
An image reader includes a moving portion, a transparent plate, a reference member, and a detecting portion. The reference member that is provided in at least one of a position that is not the manuscript contact surface in the first scanning direction and a position that is further to a side in a first direction from the transparent plate than the manuscript contact surface. The detecting portion is supported by the moving portion and includes a plurality of detecting elements, in the second scanning direction, detecting reflected light of light irradiated from a light source. A height position of the detecting portion when the reference member is on the side in the first direction is further to the side in the first direction than a height position of the detecting portion when the manuscript contact surface is on the side in the first direction.

Abstract:
An image processing apparatus includes a scanning unit, a gloss detecting unit, and a glossy information processing unit. The scanning unit includes a light source and is configured to scan a document to be scanned at a first illumination position not resulting in halation caused by light of the light source output to the document, and scan the document at a second illumination position resulting in halation caused by the light output to the document. The gloss detecting unit is configured to detect a glossy portion of the document based on images scanned at the first illumination position and the second illumination position. The glossy information processing unit is configured to perform a predetermined process by using information represented by the detected glossy portion.
