Abstract: The invention relates to a high shear stable aqueous fluoropolymer coating composition, preferably using polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), such as KYNAR® PVDF, suitable for high performance coating applications. The composition is based on a high shear stable fluoropolymer emulsion having small particle size, blended with an acrylic polymer additive. The use of this composition allows high bake PVDF water-base coatings which can be applied on variety of substrates such as metal or ceramic surfaces, and in the impregnation of textiles, glass, carbon or aramid fibers, etc. The dry coating formed from the coating composition of the invention exhibits improved gloss, crack resistance, chemical resistance, hot dirt pick up resistance and other improved properties.

Abstract: Aspects of the present invention relate to systems and processes for obtaining desired mercaptans or thiophenes from a feed stream containing a mixture of mercaptans, thiophenes and other components. In one aspect of the invention, a system for separating one or more components from a feed stream of mixed mercaptans includes one or more distillation columns in connection with a feed containing mercaptans, the distillation column having a rectification section, a stripping section, and a feed side section separated from a side draw section by a dividing wall that extends from the rectification section to the stripping section. The distillation column further being in connection with a condenser and a reboiler; and a distillate stream, a side drawn stream, and a bottoms stream.

Abstract: Hollow fiber membranes having improved toughness and durability are prepared using a vinylidene fluoride polymer-containing component, such as Kynaro resins, having relatively low crystallinity. One aspect of the invention provides a membrane in the form of a fiber, wherein i) the fiber has a porous wall of a polymeric component enclosing a central hollow space extending the length of the fiber, ii) the polymeric component has a crystallinity as determined by wide angle x-ray diffraction of less than about 35%, iii) the polymeric component is comprised of at least one homopolymer or copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and iv) the membrane has an energy to break of at least about 0.5 J per square mm of membrane cross section.

Abstract: A polyol pre-mix composition includes a blowing agent having a halogenated hydroolefin, a polyol, a catalyst composition, and an antioxidant. The antioxidant may be, for example, a benzene diol or a benzene triol or other polyhydroxy-substituted aromatic compound, which is optionally substituted with one or more substituents such as alkyl groups. A two-part system for producing a thermosetting foam blend includes (a) a polyisocyanate and, optionally, one or more isocyanate compatible raw materials; and (b) the polyol pre-mix composition. A method for producing a thermosetting foam blend includes combining: (a) a polyisocyanate; and (b) the polyol pre-mix composition.

Abstract: A breaker composition for use in a fracturing fluid comprises water, at least one peroxide (e.g., tert-butyl hydroperoxide), and optionally at least one alcohol (e.g., propylene glycol and/or a butyl alcohol). The peroxide(s) and optional alcohol(s) are present in amounts effective to reduce the viscosity of a fracturing fluid at a temperature of 90-300 F. (the “breaking temperature”), and to prevent rehealing of the fracturing fluid, i.e., to maintain the reduced viscosity for a period of time after the temperature is reduced from the breaking temperature to a temperature below the breaking temperature (e.g., after the temperature is reduced from the breaking temperature to room temperature).

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for measuring a thickness of a coating on an object are provided. Light is directed toward the object at a predetermined location on the object such that a portion of the light interacts with the object. An image having at least two wavelength channels (e.g., color channels) is captured that is produced by the portion of the light interacting with the object. A relative shift is determined between each of the at least two wavelength channels, based on a histogram of each wavelength channel of the at least two wavelength channels. At least one of the thickness or an acceptability of the coating on the object is determined based on the determined relative shift.
