Abstract:
Systems, devices, and methods for adjusting functionality of an implantable medical device based on posture are disclosed. In some instances, a method for operating a leadless cardiac pacemaker implanted into a patient, where the patient has two or more predefined behavioral states, may include detecting a change in the behavioral state of the patient, and in response, changing a sampling rate of a sensor signal generated by a sensor of the leadless cardiac pacemaker. In some embodiments, the method may further include using the sampled sensor signal to determine an updated pacing rate of the leadless cardiac pacemaker and providing pacing to the patient at the updated pacing rate.
Abstract:
Delivery devices, systems, and methods for delivering implantable leadless pacing devices are disclosed. An example delivery device may an outer tubular member and an inner tubular member slidably disposed within the lumen of the outer tubular member. A distal holding section may extend distally of a distal end of the inner tubular member and define a cavity therein for receiving an implantable leadless pacing device. The device may further include a hub portion including at least a first hub portion affixed adjacent to the proximal end of the outer tubular member and a second hub portion affixed adjacent to the proximal end of the inner tubular member. A first locking mechanism configured to releasably couple the outer tubular member and the inner tubular member may be disposed within the hub portion.
Abstract:
An implantable medical device includes operational circuitry and a power source configured to deliver energy to the operational circuitry. The operational circuitry includes, for example, a therapy circuit. The implantable medical device also includes a deactivation element configured to disable the therapy circuit. The implantable medical device also includes a power manager configured to detect an end-of-life condition of the power source and, in response to detecting the end-of-life condition, to cause the deactivation element to disable the therapy circuit.
Abstract:
Systems, devices, and methods for pacing a heart of a patient are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method for pacing a patient's heart may include determining a posture of the patient and determining if the determined posture corresponds to a predetermined sleep posture. If the determined posture correspond to the predetermined sleep posture, the method may further comprise determining a respiration phase of the patient and pacing the patient's heart at a pacing rate that is modulated based on the determined respiration phase of the patient. If the determined posture does not correspond to the predetermined sleep posture, the method may pace the patient's heart at a pacing rate that is not dependent on the respiration phase of the patient.
Abstract:
Methods and devices for configuring the use of a motion sensor in an implantable cardiac device. The electrical signals of the patient's heart are observed and may be correlated to the physical motion of the heart as detected by the motion sensor of the implantable cardiac device in order to facilitate temporal configuration of motion sensor data collection that avoids detecting cardiac motion in favor of overall motion of the patient.
Abstract:
A temporary implantable medical device lead includes a connector configured to connect the lead to an external control module. A helically coiled conductor includes a proximal end that is mechanically and electrically connected to the connector. The conductor includes a plurality of insulated filars. An insulative layer is removed from an uninsulated portion of each of the filars near a distal end of the conductor. The uninsulated portion of each of the filars is exposed at an outer surface of the conductor such that the exposed uninsulated portions of the filars define a plurality of electrodes at longitudinally spaced sections near the distal end of the conductor.
Abstract:
Various coiled conductors having two or more sections and methods and devices for constructing such conductors are disclosed. The various embodiments of coiled conductors and related methods include two or more sections that can have different mechanical, structural, and/or electrical characteristics.
Abstract:
An implantable leadless cardiac pacing device and associated delivery and retrieval devices. The implantable device includes a docking member extending from the proximal end of the housing of the implantable device configured to engage with the delivery and/or retrieval device to facilitate delivery and/or retrieval of the implantable leadless cardiac pacing device.
Abstract:
A retrieval device and an associated implantable cardiac pacing device. The retrieval device includes a grasping mechanism configured to capture a docking member of the implantable cardiac pacing device to draw the implantable cardiac pacing device into the lumen of a retrieval catheter. The grasping mechanism is expandable from a first position to a second position and is biased toward the first position in an equilibrium condition. The grasping mechanism is configured to surround and pass over a head portion of the docking member in the second position, and be contracted toward the first position to capture the docking member with the grasping mechanism.
