    Abstract: The present invention provides a method for selectively producing an alcohol by efficiently hydrogenating a lactone. The present invention is a method for producing an alcohol, the method including hydrogenating a substrate lactone represented by Formula (1), in the presence of a catalyst described below, to produce an alcohol that is represented by Formula (2).
    In the formulae, R represents a divalent hydrocarbon group which may have a hydroxyl group.
    The catalyst comprises: metal species including M1 and M2; and a support supporting the metal species, and wherein M1 is rhodium, platinum, ruthenium, iridium, or palladium; M2 is tin, vanadium, molybdenum, tungsten, or rhenium; and the support is hydroxyapatite, fluorapatite, hydrotalcite, or ZrO2.

    Abstract: To provide a polyrotaxane composite formed body produced by strong bonding between a crosslinked polyrotaxane formed body and an elastomer formed body without intervention of an adhesive.
    Provided is a method for producing a polyrotaxane composite formed body, the method including subjecting a surface of a crosslinked polyrotaxane formed body and a surface of an elastomer formed body to plasma treatment, and pressure joining the treated surfaces together, to thereby bond the formed bodies. Also provided is a polyrotaxane composite formed body including a crosslinked polyrotaxane formed body and an elastomer formed body, wherein these formed bodies are directly bonded together without being intermingled with each other in the absence of an adhesive layer between the formed bodies, an oxygen-rich layer is present between the bonding surfaces of the formed bodies, and the formed bodies exhibit a peel strength of 1 N/m or more.

    Abstract: An optical element 1 includes a first layer (A1) and a second layer (A2) that faces the first layer (A1). The first layer (A1) includes a plurality of first structural bodies (B1) that each have optical anisotropy. In reflection of light entering from the first layer (A1), the second layer (A2) reflects the light while maintaining a polarization state of the light at incidence and at the reflection. The first layer (A1) changes, according to directions of orientation of the first structural bodies (B1), a phase of the light from a phase at incidence to the first layer (A1) from outside of the first layer (A1) to a phase at output from the first layer (A1) toward the second layer (A2). The first layer (A1) changes the phase of the light from a phase at incidence to the first layer (A1) from the second layer (A2) to a phase at output from the first layer (A1) toward the outside of the first layer (A1) according to the directions of orientation of the first structural bodies (B1).
