Abstract:
An gas bag module for a vehicle occupant restraint system is provided. The gas bag module comprising an inflatable gas bag, an envelope inside of which the gas bag is vacuum packed and which comprises a first and a second material. The first material has a lower gas permeability than the second material and the second material has a higher tear strength than the first material.
Abstract:
An airbag packet includes an airbag that is vacuum packed in a film. The airbag is folded into a deep drawn lower film that is sealed at sealing points to an upper film. The sealing points are sealed at various strengths so that when the airbag is deployed the upper film remains connected to the lower film at one or more sealing points.
Abstract:
A method for producing an airbag package for an airbag module, which airbag package at least comprises an airbag and a protection covering surrounding the airbag is provided. The method using a first tool that comprises a recess for receiving the airbag package. The method comprising the steps of: covering the recess with an evenly outspread first protection covering part of the protection covering, folding the airbag, and inserting the folded airbag into the recess under interposition of the first protection covering part.
Abstract:
An object of the present invention is to ensure smooth deployment of an airbag having a turned-back end portion. The present invention is an airbag device that expands and deploys in a curtain shape on a side portion of a vehicle interior in order to protect an occupant of the vehicle interior, where the airbag includes a gas generator for generating an expansion gas and an airbag that deploys when it is expanded by the gas supplied from the gas generator. The airbag is compressed into an elongated shape when stowed and an end portion of the elongated airbag is turned back in a lengthwise direction, thereby forming an airbag main portion that is not turned back and the turned-back end portion. A restricting member is also provided to restrict deployment of the turned-back end portion of the airbag toward a vehicle outer side when the device is activated.
Abstract:
An airbag module includes a bag wrap, a retainer, an airbag, and an inflator to inflate the airbag. The airbag includes at least one vent hole, and a deployment control flap to change trajectory of the airbag such that the airbag will deploy upwards and laterally to left and right sides. The deployment control flap is fixed at both ends to the retainer, airbag, or bag wrap.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an airbag module for a motor vehicle, comprising a gas sack package comprising a gas sack, an additional moveable element configured and provided to influence a state variable of the airbag, and a gas-tight protective covering that defines an inner space of the gas sack package, wherein the gas sack and the moveable element are arranged in said inner space, and a separate movement generating device configured and provided to move the moveable element. According to the invention, the movement generating device is arranged outside the inner space of the airbag package.
Abstract:
A knee airbag device mounted on a steering column has an inner case in which a folded knee airbag is housed, and an outer case that is placed over the inner case. The outer case is fixed to a lower side of a vehicle-rear-side portion of a steering column that moves relative to a vehicle-front-side portion when a load equal to or greater than a threshold load is applied to the steering column in a direction of the axis of the steering column, and has a rigidity with which the shape of the folded knee airbag is maintained under normal conditions. The outer case has an opening formed in a region where the outer case would interfere with the vehicle-front-side portion when the vehicle-rear-side portion moves relative to the vehicle-front-side portion.
Abstract:
An airbag cover for receiving an airbag compressed into an airbag package for an airbag module of a motor vehicle is provided. The airbag cover comprising one or more precut sections of a flexible material connecting sites, by way of which regions of the at least one precut material section are connected to each other such that the at least one precut section forms a flexible cover that at least partially receives the airbag package. The airbag cover forms an outer cover of the airbag module which is at least in sections visible for a vehicle occupant when installed into a vehicle as intended, wherein the flexible airbag cover forms a most outer casing of the airbag package. At least some of the connecting sites are configured in a disconnectable such that the corresponding connecting sites are disconnected upon the inflation and deployment of the airbag as intended in the event of a crash.
Abstract:
A vehicle airbag device has: a pad cover provided at the center of a steering wheel constituted of a spoke, a rim, and a hub and secured to the hub or to the spoke; an airbag that is provided, in a folded state, at the pad cover and deploys upon collision of the vehicle by tearing the pad cover to restrain a vehicle occupant; and an inflator secured to the hub or to the spoke to supply inflation gas into the airbag upon collision of the vehicle. The pad cover has an extension portion extending from the center of the steering wheel to the rim such that the extension portion overlaps the spoke. The extension portion has a tear portion that tears upon collision of the vehicle. A portion of the airbag is disposed, in a folded state, at the extension portion.
Abstract:
An airbag assembly with a reduced-cost knee airbag cushion and internal tethers can be formed from a single rectangular panel of material so that there is very little material waste. A pleat can be formed in a rear face so that the combination of tethers and pleat help the cushion deploy with favorable characteristics and adopt an arced shape when inflated. The cushion can have apertures for inserting an inflator with mounting stems partially within the cushion so that the mounting stems can be used to couple the cushion to an airbag housing. The assembly can also have a bag strap formed from a single piece of fabric that can wrap around a rolled and/or folded cushion. The assembly can also have a stabilizer strap that can be coupled to the cushion and to the airbag housing so that during deployment, the cushion does not skew or twist.
