Abstract:
A distributed control and/or monitoring system and method includes a local application and a remote application separated from the local application. The local application includes a host computer. The remote application includes a plurality of field devices and a communication bus connected to the plurality of field devices. Packet messages are wirelessly communicated between the local application and the remote application such that the host computer and field devices can communicate with each other as if they were directly connected to the same communication bus.
Abstract:
A process control instrument for coupling to a process is attachable to a metal flange. The flange has a first passageway adapted to be filled with process fluid. The process control instrument includes a body having an opening adjacent to the first passageway for receiving process fluid from the first passageway when the process control instrument is attached to the flange. A diaphragm is disposed across the opening for fluid communication with the process fluid. A seal is positionable against the flange to prevent process fluid from leaking past the flange and diaphragm. The seal includes a ring positioned in the opening and coupled to the body, the ring being substantially in contact with the diaphragm along an inner annular shoulder when the body is not attached to the flange (unloaded).
Abstract:
A manufacturing procedure of a vortex flowmeter is disclosed that allows for assembly of a vortex sensor assembly with one of two or more unitary flowtubes that have bores that are smaller than the flowtube flanges in two or more size number steps. The unitary flowtubes include flanges, flowtube bores and expanders (also called reducers) that provide a smooth flow transition from the larger flanges to the smaller bores.
Abstract:
A diaphragm diagnostic system for use in an industrial field device has a diaphragm and a diagnostic feature. The diaphragm is configured to couple the field device to a process fluid and has a plurality of layers. A first layer of the plurality of layers is exposed to process fluid of an industrial process. A diagnostic feature is coupled to the diaphragm to monitor an electrical parameter of the diaphragm and responsively infer an operative state of the diaphragm based on a change in the monitored electrical parameter.
Abstract:
The system has a control center, a time master device and a plurality of distributed, time slave field devices in synchronization with a master clock of the time master device. The time master device periodically transmits a time distribution data unit. Each time slave field device has a timer adjustment element, a fixed rate clock and a variable clock. The timer adjustment element calculates a frequency ratio between the master clock and the fixed rate clock and uses the frequency ratio to calculate adjustment coefficients to adjust a local sense of time for each field device, such that a time stamp of each field device is synchronized to the master clock.
Abstract:
A pressure transmitter assembly for measuring a pressure of a process fluid includes an isolation diaphragm assembly. A pressure sensor is spaced apart from the isolation diaphragm assembly to provide thermal isolation. A conduit extends from the isolation diaphragm assembly to the pressure sensor and is configured to carry isolation fill fluid.
Abstract:
A flow meter assembly includes a flow meter for use in a sanitary process environment. The flow meter includes a flow tube having an end which includes a first gasket lip and a first abutting face. A sealing flange mates with the flow tube and includes a second gasket lip and a second abutting face configured to abut against the first abutting face. A gasket provides a seal between the first and second gasket lips. The first abutting face and second abutting face limit compression of the sealing flange.
Abstract:
A vortex flow meter for measuring fluid flow has a conduit for carrying a fluid. A region of reduced thickness is formed in a portion of the conduit. A shedding bar disposed in the conduit is coupled to the region of reduced thickness and is configured to apply a rocking motion to the region of reduced thickness about a pivot line in response to flow of the fluid. At least one reinforcing rib on the reduced thickness portion preferably extends parallel to flow of fluid.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention generally provide a field-mountable process device that receives digital information from one or more process devices, and provides an associated analog output. Embodiments of the present invention include providing a wireless interface to the field-mounted process device such that configuration and/or diagnostic information can be communicated between the field-mounted process device and one or more additional devices. In some embodiments, the field-mounted process device can be completely powered by the digital process communication loop to which it is coupled. Finally, embodiments of the present invention also include generating and storing within the field-mounted process device a mapping between one or more field devices communicating in accordance with a digital process communication protocol and an analog output of the field-mounted process device.
