Abstract: An example method may include a processing system of a base station having a processor selecting a blank resource of a time and frequency resource grid of the base station for a transmission of a channel sounding waveform and transmitting the channel sounding waveform via the blank resource. Another example method may include a processing system of a channel sounding receiver receiving at a location, from a base station, a channel sounding waveform via a blank resource of a time and frequency resource grid of the base station, and measuring a channel property at the location based upon the channel sounding waveform.

Abstract: The described technology is generally directed towards operating a user equipment as a local manager to manage/relay data from other access user equipment(s). Selection of a user equipment as a manager can be based on user equipment capability information and a reference signals report. If selected, the user equipment is instructed to operate as a local manager, including receiving local manager data from the network for use by the user equipment in operating as the local manager, such as which access user equipments to manage, and assigned radio resource pool for scheduling the access user equipment. The use of a local manager allows a semi-autonomous spectrum utilization technology that integrates the access, backhaul and sidelink in a unified framework.

Abstract: Enhanced beam management for a wireless communication system is provided. In one example, a method comprises: receiving, from a mobile device, a message indicating first beam information for a selected first beam of beams associated with the base station device, wherein the message is a first received message of a random access channel procedure; and receiving, from the mobile device, message indicating second beam information for a selected second beam of the beams associated with the base station device, wherein the selected second beam is an alternative to the selected first beam for transmission of downlink data to the mobile device from the base station device, and wherein the second beam is indicated in the first message of a two-step random access channel procedure. Methods of signaling the second beam and/or transmission diversity approaches employing the first beam and/or the second beam are described.

Abstract: An example method may include a processing system of a channel sounding receiver having a processor receiving from a base station, at a location, a channel sounding waveform via a plurality of carriers, sampling the channel sounding waveform via the plurality of carriers to generate a plurality of per-carrier time domain sample sets, and processing the plurality of per-carrier time domain sample sets via a plurality of discrete Fourier transform modules to provide a plurality of per-carrier frequency domain sample sets. The method may further include the processing system aligning the plurality of per-carrier frequency domain sample sets in gain and phase to provide a combined frequency domain sample set and measuring a channel property at the location based upon the combined frequency domain sample set.

Abstract: A user equipment can send a notification to a network node indicating that the user equipment is entering a battery saving mode of operation. Reduced physical layer procedures can be implemented based on reduced capabilities indicated by the user equipment. Reduced physical layer procedures can also be implemented based on the network node's reconfiguration of parameters to facilitate the activation of the reduced physical layer procedures. The user equipment can also send to the network node recommendations of reduced physical layer procedures.

Abstract: The random access channel procedure for new radio NR can be designed to support multiple use cases with various requirements. The NR physical layer can support the independent configuration of resources used for the random access channel (RACH) procedures that can be transparent to user equipment (UE) devices and independent from resources configured for the UE. For instance, in the case of a standalone NR the RACH configuration can be obtained by the UE by either signaling on the NR carrier or fixed within the telecommunications standard. While in the case of non-standalone NR the RACH configuration can be obtained by the UE by broadcast or dedicated signaling on a different carrier than the NR carrier (e.g. a Long Term Evolution carrier).

Abstract: A radio resource measurement (RRM) and timing configuration (TC) framework can facilitate efficient configuration of RRM measurements in wireless communications systems with variable carrier and transmission bandwidths. The RMTC can comprise a list of synchronization signal (SS) block measurement and timing configurations (SMTCs) and a list of channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) measurement and timing configurations (CMTCs). A framework is proposed to allow for efficient signaling of measurement configurations in cellular wireless communications systems with overlapping carriers of varying bandwidths comprising carriers without synchronization signals as well as bandwidth parts covering parts of the spectrum of a carrier.

Abstract: Concurrent mini-slot based and slot based transmissions to a single device are provided herein. A method can comprise transmitting, by a network device comprising a processor, first data via a first control channel indicating a slot based transmission for a device and second data via a second control channel indicating a mini-slot based transmission for the device. A first length of the slot based transmission can comprise a defined number of symbols and a second length of the mini-slot based transmission can comprise some of the defined number of symbols. The method can also comprise transmitting, by the network device, the slot based transmission and the mini-slot based transmission. The slot based transmission and the mini-slot based transmission can be logically separate transmissions that can be scheduled to be concurrent transmissions for the device.
