Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for a wireless device to perform beam management procedures with a base station. A wireless device in communication with a 5G base station may perform measurements and determine constraints relevant to beam selection. The device may select a recommended beam based on the measurements and constraint(s) and indicate the recommended beam to the base station. A recommended uplink beam may not correspond to a recommended downlink beam.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) supports communication over a first (lower) frequency range and a second (higher) frequency range. The UE determines an extent of preference of the second frequency range over the first frequency range, e.g., based on one or more of the following: sensor measurements; physical channel measurements; battery conditions; weather conditions; voice call activity; indoor/outdoor/in-car status; learned relationships between previous location-time conditions and performance on the second frequency range; etc. The UE device may control search activity and/or measurement activity on the second frequency range based on the preference extent, e.g., by controlling rates of repetition of search and/or measurement on the second frequency range, or by adding a measurement bias to a measurement reporting threshold, or by adding a delay to a measurement reporting time for a measurement, or by disabling search and measurement on the second frequency range.

Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for a wireless device to perform methods to implement mechanisms for a UE to request a beam quality measurement procedure. A user equipment device may be configured to perform a method including performing transmitting a request to perform a beam quality measurement procedure for downlink receptions (e.g., a P3 procedure) to a base station/network entity, receiving instructions to perform the beam quality measurement procedure from the base station, and transmitting results of the beam quality measurement procedure to the base station. In some embodiments, transmission of the request may be response to at least one trigger condition and/or detection of a condition at the UE. The request may include an indication of a preferred timing offset. The instructions to perform the beam quality measurement procedure may include a schedule for the beam quality measurement.

Abstract: A wireless communication device (UE) may provide information pertaining to one or more operating capabilities of the UE to LTE and 5G-NR networks. The UE may transmit information to an LTE base station directly, and to a 5G-NR base station directly, or indirectly via the LTE base station. The information may include preferred values corresponding to any number of different operating parameters associated with wireless communications or wireless communication capabilities of the UE in both LTE and 5G-NR networks, to inform and/or request the LTE and 5G-NR networks to make provisions based on the transmitted information for the wireless communications of the UE on those networks. The UE may thereby provide assistance information to LTE and 5G-NR networks in a multi-radio-access-technology dual-connectivity setting to request the respective networks to adjust certain operating capabilities of the UE in order to alleviate one or more operating issues that may be affecting the UE.

Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for a base station to perform a method construct dynamic hierarchical sub-configurations of bandwidth parts (BWPs) for use in a connected mode discontinuous reception (CDRX) communication session with a user equipment (UE) device. The base station may configure a first BWP at a baseband frequency associated with the CDRX communication session as a default BWP, a second BWP with a wider bandwidth than the first BWP as a transmission BWP, and one or more third BWPs as resting BWPs. The transmission BWP and the one or more resting BWPs may be configured to periodically override the default BWP as the active BWP for a predetermined number of CDRX cycles. The transmission BWP may be utilized, when activated to perform data transmission by UE device, and the one or more resting BWPs may be utilized, when activated, for performing channel measurements.

Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods to dynamically indicate preference for self-contained slots and slot duration by a user equipment device (UE) in communication with a base station (e.g., a gNB) using a 5G NR radio access technology. A UE may determine to send an indication to a gNB indicating a preference for self-contained slots and slot duration for downlink and/or uplink communications utilizing one or more of the physical downlink control channel (PDCCH), the physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH), and/or acknowledgement messaging (ACK/NACK) for downlink communications, and utilizing one or more of the physical uplink control channel (PUCCH), the PDCCH, and/or the physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) for uplink communications. The configuration of self-contained slots and slot duration for uplink and/or downlink may be based on one or more of average packet size, average packet rate, traffic type and UE processing capabilities.

Abstract: A base station and mobile device (UE) may coordinate transmission of reference signals and reception of corresponding channel state information (CSI) reports. If a periodic reference signal is scheduled for transmission outside the on-duration period of the UE, even if the reference signal corresponds to a periodic CSI report scheduled to be transmitted by the UE during the on-duration period, the base station may not transmit the periodic reference signal, thereby allowing the UE not to prematurely exit a low-power state. The base station may instead transmit an aperiodic reference signal at a specified point in time later than the scheduled transmission of the periodic reference signal. The UE may receive the aperiodic reference signal and either transmit the periodic CSI report or an aperiodic CSI report in response, depending on how close to the start of the on-duration period the transmission of the periodic CSI report is scheduled.
