Abstract:
A method for extrusion coating both sides of a metal strip. A metal strip, such as aluminum alloy strip, is moved through a pre-conditioner, two extrusion dies, a post heater and a cooling system. Both sides of the strip are coated with thin coatings of polyester material. The coated metal strip is useful for containers, such as cans and can ends, as well as for automobiles, appliances, aerospace, construction and electrical devices.
Abstract:
A memory card that is detachably connectable to a host data processing system includes a plurality of flash EPROM memory devices for storing data input from the host system in addressable data locations in the memory devices. The card also includes a control circuit having further memory for storing an interleave factor input from the host system for specifying the order in which data is consecutively distributed among the memory devices. By selectively steering certain low order address bits to a chip select decoder, data is serially distributed into identical address locations in each memory device. By having the interleave factor variable, data may be distributed among a selected set of memory devices, thereby allowing the host system to relate the data transfer rate to the particular application.
Abstract:
A dual active clamp (DAC) converter comprising two active-clamp, zero-voltage switching (ZVS) converters for converting electrical power from an input source to an output load is described. The two active-clamp ZVS converters are coupled in parallel to one another at their respective inputs and outputs, and are operated in a manner which reduces the overall input and output ripple currents of the DAC converter, which reduces the EMI emissions of the DAC converter. Each of the active-clamp ZVS converters achieves zero-voltage switching on its primary switch means, which also improves EMI emissions. Each active-clamp ZVS converter includes a transformer having a primary winding and a secondary winding, the secondary winding being coupled to the output load and the primary switch means being coupled between the primary winding and a voltage source, and an active clamp circuit comprising a series combination of a storage capacitor and a first switch means. The active clamp is coupled to the transformer to capture energy released from the transformer at specific times, which is then used to reset the transformer's core and to create a zero voltage switching condition across the primary switch means. A second switch means is connected in series with the secondary winding of the transformer and is operated to prevent the loading effects of the secondary from interrupting the creation of the zero-voltage switching condition.
Abstract:
A efficient circuit for driving two switching transistors of an electrical power transfer circuit in an anti-phase relationship is described. The drive circuit is applied to a power transfer circuit, such as a switching-type power converter, having a first switching transistor, a second switching transistor, and a magnetic storage element electrically coupled to the first switching transistor. The first switching transistor is coupled to the magnetic storage element and operates to vary the magnetic flux in the storage element. The present invention comprises a drive circuitry for operating the first switching transistor, the drive circuitry being responsive to a first control signal generated by the power transfer circuit. For driving the second switching transistor, the present invention comprises circuitry for generating a second control signal as a function of the magnetic flux in the magnetic storage element. The second control signal causes the second switching transistor to be conductive when the first switching transistor becomes non-conductive. The present invention further comprises a shunting circuitry responsive to the first control signal for causing the second switching transistor to be non-conductive when the first switching transistor becomes conductive. The circuitry for generating the second control signal and the shunting circuitry of the present invention may be constructed from components requiring less board area than standard drive circuitry for the second switching transistor.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for the sequential handling and delivery of individual flexible products, such as plastic bags or containers, is provided which enables the use of extended length orbital packer fingers for removing closely spaced flexible products from a transfer drum and delivering them to a stacking table. The apparatus includes a product drum for delivering a series of closely spaced individual flexible products to a transfer point, and a transfer drum positioned at the transfer point for transferring the flexible products to a delivery point while maintaining substantially the same spacing between the products. Adjacent the transfer drum is an orbital packing mechanism including a shaft mounted adjacent the transfer drum for orbital movement and a plurality of packer fingers secured to the shaft and extending into the annular grooves for removing the flexible products sequentially from the transfer drum and delivering them to the delivery point. The fingers are preferably designed to extend and contact across substantially the full width of the flexible products as the products are removed from the transfer drum to prevent bag fold over problems and misalignment in the stacking of the products.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a power transformer having a low profile and low overall volume. The power transformer also has improved isolation between the primary and the secondary windings, while at the same time providing improved electromagnetic coupling between these windings. The power transformer comprises an insulating enclosure for encapsulating a primary winding wound therein. The secondary winding comprises two electrically connected planar windings stamped from a conductive foil sheet. The insulating enclosure is positioned between the two planar windings of the secondary winding. The power transformer also comprises a core for coupling magnetic flux from the primary winding to the secondary winding.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for making individual flexible web products whereby a web material is tucked outwardly from the surface of a product drum by fixed projections, severed and sealed, and provided to one or more transfer points. The products are there transferred to one or more transfer drums with corresponding indentations, which deliver the products to packing devices. An alternative embodiment provides multiple delivery points by using lateral-shifting transfer drums. The apparatus and method vary and control flexible product width introducing a multiplicity of moving parts, and enhance separation of individual products during transfer while increasing overall production rates.

Abstract:
A method for simulating an analog display in a digital display spectrum analyzer (or other digital display test instrument) comprises the steps of defining a plurality, N, of traces of the signal to be displayed, assigning coordinate values to points along each trace, and plotting and simultaneously displaying each of the N traces by illuminating corresponding pixel locations on the CRT as indicated by the assigned coordinate values. The method permits effective simulation of trace persistence as commonly found in analog display test instruments. According to one embodiment of the invention, a color graphics controller/color CRT may be provided, in which case gray scales may be generated and displayed to simulate variations in intensity levels as commonly found in traces plotted on analog display test instruments. An apparatus for practicing the method is also disclosed.
