Abstract: For unlicensed high-frequency bands such as mmW bands as used in 5G NR communications, either by regulation or for coexistence with licensed frequency bands, there may be a need for a contention-based access procedure such as the LBT procedure. A challenge is to find a suitable sensing beam to functions as a proxy for a set of transmission beams. In an aspect of the disclosure, a method and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus is configured to determine a set of transmission beams for a transmission opportunity, determine a sensing beam for the set of transmission beams based on a set of beam sensing criteria; and initiate an LBT procedure by sensing an energy on the determined sensing beam. The apparatus may then use the LBT procedure to obtain the access to and transmit data on the determined set of transmission beams.

In one example, an eNodeB executes an LBT protocol to gain access to a channel of a shared spectrum, receives radio resource management (RRM) measurement reports from an IoT-U, estimates a number of repetitions used to schedule the IoT-U based on the RRM measurement, and configures the maximum number of HARQ processes that can be scheduled in a frame based on the RRM measurements and the estimate of the repetitions.

Abstract: A mobile device can send and receive signals in a dedicated frequency band and receive signals in a separate frequency band separate from the dedicated frequency band. The mobile device can determine, based on the first signal, ranging information indicative of a range from the mobile device to a source of the first signal, e.g., to obtain improved accuracy ranging information.

Abstract: In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. In one configuration, the apparatus may receive, from a base station, first information associated with one or more resources allocated for at least one PRACH transmission. In one aspect, the one or more resources may be allocated in an unlicensed spectrum. In another aspect, the one or more resources may be allocated based on a multi-tone PRACH bandwidth. The apparatus may also receive second information associated with a frequency hopping configuration from the base station. In one aspect, the frequency hopping configuration may be associated with at least one of the one or more allocated resources or the multi-tone PRACH bandwidth. The apparatus may transmit, to the base station, the at least one PRACH transmission using the one or more allocated resources within the multi-tone PRACH bandwidth and the frequency hopping configuration.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for wireless communication in the unlicensed spectrum between an eNB and UEs having different bandwidths, e.g., between a narrowband UE and a wideband eNB. A UE apparatus transmits uplink transmissions in a plurality of transmission units and hops frequency bands in a first pattern across frames based on a base station hopping pattern. The apparatus may transmit uplink transmissions based on dual hopping patterns, and may hop in a second pattern across transmission units within the base station's channel occupancy within a frame. A base station apparatus may hop frequency bands in a first pattern across frames based on a base station hopping pattern, and may receive uplink transmissions in a narrowband from a UE in a plurality of transmission units within the frequency bands based on the base station hopping pattern.

Abstract: Improvement in co-existence of the LTE device-to-device communication with another device-to-device communication method is desired. The apparatus selects a countdown number within a size of a contention window including a plurality of slots before a target subframe. The apparatus determines whether each slot of the plurality of slots is idle or utilized while waiting for the target subframe. The apparatus counts down the countdown number during each of the determined idle slots. The apparatus determines whether the countdown number has reached a threshold number before the target subframe. An eNB determines a CCA parameter for use by a UE in performing a CCA procedure for UL transmission and transmits an indication of the CCA parameter to the UE. The UE receives an indication of the CCA parameter for UL transmission from the eNB and performs the CCA procedure for UL transmission using the indicated CCA parameter. The UE may transmit to the eNB prior to receiving the indication of the CCA parameter. The eNB may use the report in determining the CCA parameter for use by the UE.
