Abstract: Various aspects are described for schemes that address the potential puncturing of important reference signals (RSs) for enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) applications, such as demodulation reference signal (DMRS), channel state information reference signal (CSIRS), tracking reference signal, and general reference signal. The schemes can be used for recovery of eMBB's RS puncturing from dynamic multiplexing of ultra-reliable-low-latency communications (URLLC) and eMBB. The schemes include a block-based scheme and an over-provisioning scheme. The schemes modify an existing RS pattern before puncturing occurs in response to a presence of the URLLC traffic. In addition, there can be an option not to use (e.g., disable) time-domain orthogonal cover code (TD-OCC) for the RSs.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. In multi-user (MU) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communications systems, a base station may perform signaling to indicate information related to ports assigned to one or more UEs. The base station may also signal information regarding ports shared with other UEs, which the UE may use when performing channel estimation. In some examples, the base station may signal a number of ports used per sub-band to the UE or a number of demodulation reference signal (DMRS) ports used by the UE. The base station may signal a sub-set of a total number of ports that are shared by other UEs overlapping with the resource allocation of the UE. The signaling may indicate a number of combs used by the base station in the resource allocation for the UE.

Abstract: Enhanced channel state information (CSI) feedback is disclosed for full dimensional multiple input, multiple output (FD-MIMO) operations. In one aspect, a CSI process is defined that may be used to identify an azimuth and elevation CSI-reference signal (RS) ports. A user equipment (UE) will send a precoding matrix indictor (PMI) report including a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) for the azimuth ports and a PMI for the elevation ports. One of the PMIs is assigned a low rank. The base station will use the two PMIs to create a whole channel precoding matrix. In another aspect, a single CSI process is configured having a plurality of CSI-RS resources. The UE generates channel measurement information for each of the CSI-RS resources, but only sets a CSI report to the base station of a subset of the total number of resources.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described that support a low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) precoded reference signal design for multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) transmissions. A user equipment (UE) may identify multiple sets of symbols associated with different reference signal waveforms, where each reference signal waveform may be associated with a low PAPR. In some cases, different single-carrier reference signal waveforms may be mapped to subsets of frequency resources through frequency division multiplexing (FDM) for a transmission on a single antenna. However, the addition of single-carrier waveforms through FDM for a transmission via an antenna may result in an uplink transmission having a high PAPR (e.g., as compared to single-carrier waveforms). The UE may reduce the PAPR of the uplink transmission by multiplexing the reference signal waveforms in the time domain (e.g., using time division multiplexing (TDM)).

Abstract: The described techniques provide for the use of sub-band-specific reference signal precoding. A user equipment (UE) may apply multiple precoding matrices to a reference signal to generate a set of precoded reference signals and may transmit the precoded reference signals over respective sub-bands within a given reference signal resource set. In some cases, the UE may transmit a different set of precoded reference signals in each of multiple reference signal resource sets. Upon receiving the precoded reference signals, a base station may perform wideband channel estimation for each sub-band in the given reference signal resource set. The base station may compute an average spectral efficiency for each reference signal resource set and may transmit a report to the UE. The report may include one or more communication parameters for future communications between the UE and base station.

A method may include determining a size of a frequency subband corresponding to components of a CSI feedback report based on configuration signaling or a size of allocated uplink control resources. A method may include encoding a CSI report into a single packet and transmitting the single packet over uplink control resources. A method may include encoding a first plurality of components of a CSI report in a first packet, encoding a second plurality of components of the CSI report in a second packet, and mapping the packets to uplink control resources. A method may include transmitting a first plurality of components of a CSI report on a first slot and a second plurality of components of the CSI report on one or more subsequent slots.

Abstract: Techniques and apparatus for differential channel state information (CSI) reporting for high resolution CSI are provided. One technique includes receiving a CSI reference signal (CSI-RS). First feedback components associated with first CSI feedback for a first CSI feedback stage are determined based on the CSI-RS, and the first feedback components are reported to a base station. Second feedback components associated with at least one second CSI feedback for at least one second CSI feedback stage are determined based in part on the first feedback components, and the second feedback components are reported to the base station. A precoding for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) communications is determined based on the first feedback components and the second feedback components.
