Abstract: A group-based PDCCH capability is proposed in LTE. In particular, information common to a group of UEs much as those common to a virtual carrier, may be signalled in a group search space within the PDCCH. This common information may include the location of a further control region embedded in the virtual carder which contains UE-specific information for access the resources of the virtual carrier. Additional methods are introduced for assigning UEs a group identity by implicit signalling, and for determining the aggregation level of the group-based PDCCH search space.

Abstract: A communications device establishes a communications context for communicating data packets using a packet communications bearer from the communications device via mobile communications network in a connected state and releases communications context when in an idle state. A controller is configured in combination with a receiver to receive signalling information providing an indication of one or more functions performed by at least one of the receiver, a transmitter, or the controller which can be changed in a power saving state, and when in either the idle state or the connected state, to enter the power saving state in which the one or more of the operations performed by at least one of the receiver, the transmitter, or the controller are changed in accordance with the indication of the changed functions received in the signalling information from the mobile communications network.

Abstract: A communications device can identify one or more sections of plural predetermined sections, divided into time-units, of shared communications resources of a wireless access interface for transmitting data signals to one or more other communications device. The communications device detects whether another of the one or more communications devices are transmitting signals in one or more of the identified sections of the shared communications resources in at least one time divided unit, and if signals transmitted by another of the communications devices are not detected, the device transmits signals in the identified one or more predetermined sections of the shared communications resources for at least one of the time divided units, and then, after a collision avoidance time, detects for at least one subsequent time unit whether another of the one or more communications devices transmits signals in one or more of the identified sections of the shared communications resources.

Abstract: A communications device transmits and receives data via a wireless access interface in a mobile communications network. First resource allocation messages are received by communications devices to allocate one or more of plural communications resource elements of a host frequency range of a host carrier. Second resource allocation messages are received by reduced capability devices to allocate one or more of a first section of the communications resources within the first frequency range for preferable allocation to the reduced capability devices of a first virtual carrier, the first resource allocation messages identifying one or more of the communications resource of the host carrier allocated to the communications devices with reference to a first reference frequency and the second resource allocation messages identifying one or more communications resources of the first virtual carrier allocated to the reduced capability devices with reference to a second reference frequency within the first virtual carrier.

Abstract: A mobile communications network includes one or more network elements providing a wireless access interface for communications devices. The wireless access interface provides plural communications resource elements across a host frequency range of a host carrier. First and second sections of communications resources within respective first and second frequency ranges for preferable allocation to reduced capability devices form respective first and second virtual carriers. Each of the first and second frequency ranges is within the host frequency range, wherein the communications device is configured with a reduced capability to receive the signals only within a frequency bandwidth less than the host frequency range and equal to at least one of the first or second frequency range. The communications device is configured to receive the first signalling data from the control channel and the common system information from the one or more communications resources identified by the first signalling data.
