Abstract:
A method involves conveying tissue logs in a saw conveyor. The conveyor has independent lane control cutting and variable conveyor flight length. In one aspect of the method a first tissue log is received in a lane of a conveyor. With a first log advancement member, the first tissue log is advanced in the lane of the conveyor for cutting with a tissue log saw. A second tissue log is received in the lane of the conveyor when the first tissue log has advanced sufficiently in the lane to accommodate the second tissue log in the lane. With a second log advancement member, the second tissue log is advanced in the lane of the conveyor for cutting with the tissue log saw independently of the step of advancing the first tissue log in the lane. The conveyor may also have multiple lanes.
Abstract:
A conveyor system for advancing tissue logs has a first log advancement member that conveys a lead tissue log toward a discharge end of a lane via a first drive, and a second log advancement member that conveys a successive tissue log after the lead tissue log toward the discharge end of the lane via a second drive. A controller is coupled to the first and second drives. The controller is adapted and configured to control: the first drive to move the first log advancement member between a start and finish position, the second drive to move the second log advancement member between the start and finish position, and the first drive independently of the second drive. A plurality of like lanes may be provided and the controller may also control the first and second drives of one lane independently of the first and second drives of another lane.
Abstract:
A method of forming a roll of convolutely wound web material. The method includes winding web material around an elongated mandrel to form a roll of convolutely wound web material. The mandrel is substantially axially elastic and formed of material having a tensile yield strength divided by elastic modulus greater than 2.0%, and more preferably 2.5%. The mandrel is preferably radially complaint. The method further includes removing the mandrel from the roll. A further method includes winding web material around an elongated mandrel to form a roll of convolutely wound web material, the mandrel being comprised of material having a tensile yield strength divided by elastic modulus greater than 2.0%, and then longitudinally elongating the mandrel.
Abstract:
An embossing assembly for sheet material includes at least two embossing rollers, the ends of which are rotatably mounted in the side panels of an embossing machine. Each of the side panels is divided into a fixed portion and at least one movable portion. The ends of the embossing rollers are mounted in supports which are removably fixed in seats formed in the fixed portions of the side panels or in the movable portions of the side panels of the machine. In this manner, when the movable portions of side panels are moved with respect to the fixed portions of side panels, a space is cleared for removal of at least a portion of the embossing roller supports.
Abstract:
In a rewinding machine (10), a device (50) for discharging logs (20, 20′) comprises: a chute (30) disposed downstream of a winding area (2) designed to allow the formed logs (20′) to roll towards the output of the winding machine (10), a stopping device (111, 117) designed to stop the log (20′) on the chute (30), and an actuator (113) acting on the stopping device (111) to bring it from a working position in which it stops the log (20′) to a resting position in which it allows the log (20′) to roll on the chute (30). The chute (30) comprises: a first portion (31) with a slight slope, disposed at the output of the winding area (2), designed to slow the log (20′) by friction or in any case not to accelerate the rolling thereof, and a second portion (32) with a slope greater than that of the first portion (31), designed to accelerate by gravity the rolling of the log (20′) after it has been stopped by means of the stopping device (111,117).
Abstract:
A glue applicator for a web winding apparatus applies a longitudinal stripe of glue to an elongated core. The stripe of glue may be applied by an elongated wire or bar, by a rotating roller, or by a sprayer. The glued core is moved by a core inserter into position for insertion into the winding apparatus so that the stripe of glue is upstream of the web and in position to contact the web at the start of a new winding cycle. A web pinch pad on the core inserter contacts the web and severs the web at the start of the winding cycle.
Abstract:
An embosser can emboss two webs of sheet material with either nested or foot-to-foot embossments. The embosser includes two steel embossing rolls which are engraved with the same embossing pattern. When foot-to-foot embossments are desired, the embossing rolls are positioned so that the corresponding embossments on the two rolls are aligned. When nested embossed are desired, one of the embossing rolls is moved either axially or circumferentially, or both, relative to the other embossing roll so that embossments on the two rolls nest.
Abstract:
A packaging bag for containing a product is provided. The bag includes an end with four bag projections that are to be folded over the product. A first pair of opposing bag projections are folded down to form generally triangular portions, and the other pair of opposing bag projections are folded onto the triangular portions and connected together in the overlap area while basically maintaining their rectangular shape and catching the corners of the first pair of bag projections. In order for the first pair of bag projections to be formed along the long side of the bag, the fold edges between adjacent bag projections run at least partially outside of the contour of the bags when folded and the angle formed between the side and base of the triangular portion when folded in is less than 45.degree..
Abstract:
A center driven unwind system for core-equipped parent rolls includes a frame for supporting the parent roll while it is being unwound, a parent roll placement cart for moving a parent roll from a loading position to the unwinding position on the frame, and a core removal cart for removing an unwound parent roll from the frame.
Abstract:
A liquid fountain unit and method for a roll applicator equipped with doctor blades extending parallel to the roll axis and an axially extending third blade mounted adjacent one of the doctor blades and having an angled configuration in the fountain unit chamber with a free edge portion directed toward the roll applicator, the third blade being equipped with a passage to permit liquid flow from one blade side to the other to substantially minimize ghosting.
