Abstract: Some devices comprise a first light-guiding component, a second light-guiding component, a lens, an optical-correction component that has a reflecting surface that faces the lens, and a sheath, which causes astigmatism. The reflecting surface has an optical power on a first axis of two orthogonal axes, the optical power on the first axis compensates for the astigmatism, and the reflecting surface has a negligible optical power on a second axis of the two orthogonal axes. Also, the reflecting surface is configured to reflect light from the lens and redirect the reflected light through the sheath.

Abstract: The present application relates to a flexible manipulator including at least one flexible member (bend) controlled by an input device in the form of a joystick. Specifically, to prevent the flexible manipulator inserted into a narrow space from contacting surrounding objects, the flexible manipulator according to the present invention is configured to maintain the shape when the operator releases the joystick. However, when the flexible manipulator is shaped to be at a target position and subsequently needs to be returned to the original shape, the operator manipulates the joystick using complicated and time consuming manipulation techniques. A control device in communication with the flexible manipulator is configured to allow the operator to select an input method for maintaining the shape of the flexible manipulator after the joystick is released. In addition, an input method for returning the flexible manipulator to the original shape may be selected. This enables the operator to use an appropriate input method in accordance with the purpose of a medical procedure.

Abstract: A probe, system, and method of capacitive sensing for detection of relative rotation of one tube with respect to a fixed tube of a probe is provided herewith. The probe includes an inner core, a concentric cylindrical tube, and at least one inner electrode fixed to the inner core and at least one outer electrode fixed to the cylindrical tube. The electrodes are rotationally aligned and form a capacitive sensor that can sense the rotation angle of the inner core compared to the cylindrical tube. This ability to sense relative rotation angle can be used to detect and/or correct for non-uniform rotational distortion.
