Abstract: A filter system including a designated filter cartridge including a geometric projection therein and a filter cartridge housing. The filter cartridge housing including a valve that controls fluid flow out of the filter system, a filter cartridge housing, and a filter cartridge housing cover. The valve may include an opening keyed to the geometric projection such that the geometric projection engages the opening and actuates the valve, and the valve may be configured to attach to the filter cartridge housing cover by a snap fit connection.

Abstract: A filter assembly includes a conditioning device that conditions a flow of air upstream of a mass air flow sensor. The filter assembly includes a support frame. The filter assembly further includes a filter media coupled to the support frame, the filter media having a dirty side configured to receive a stream of air and a clean side configured to output a stream of air that has been filtered through the filter media. The filter assembly includes a conditioning device coupled to the support frame, the conditioning device positioned in a downstream direction from the clean side of the filter media with respect to the stream of air, the conditioning device offset from the clean side of the filter media by a separation distance.

Abstract: A system and method for monitoring the negative impact of a filtration system on the fuel economy of an internal combustion engine. A filter monitoring controller receives engine operating parameters of the internal combustion engine. The filter monitoring controller determines an amount of power generated by the internal combustion engine based at least in part on the engine operating parameters. The filter monitoring controller determines a filter hydraulic power consumption of a filtration system providing a fluid to the internal combustion engine. The filter monitoring controller determines a fuel economy impact of the filtration system on the internal combustion engine based at least in part on the filter hydraulic power consumption of the filtration system. The filter monitoring controller compares the fuel economy impact of the filtration system to a threshold fuel economy impact to determine whether a filter element of the filtration system requires servicing.

Abstract: A filtration system is described. The filtration system includes a filter housing having a central tube and a replaceable filter element. The central tube includes a gasket that plugs a passage from the dirty side of the filter element to the clean side of the filter element when the filter element is installed in an operational position. The gasket includes an integrated drain extending through the gasket. The gasket is integrated into the central tube and stays in place when the filter element is removed (e.g., during replacement of the filter element). The removal of the filter element opens the drain to allow for the draining of the fluid from the housing to the tank. The gasket is reusable and does not need to be replaced with each filter element replacement.
