Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for displaying personalized preview images during trick-play operations of a media asset based on user profile data and an importance of frames of the media asset. A request from a user to move a slider of a progress bar associated with a media asset is received while the media asset is being generated for display. A scene from the media asset that contains a play position indicated by the slider is identified and a frame that best matches user profile data of the user and importance data for the scene is identified. The identified frame is generated for display as an overlay over the displayed media asset.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for controlling one or more devices based on measured sound levels. A device management system may access managed devices on a network, determine if any managed devices are generating sound, identify the sound-generating device, access a loudness policy associated with the sound-generating device, select a sound measuring device near the sound-generating device, receive from the sound measuring device a measured sound level of the sound-generating device, determine if the measured sound level exceeds a threshold from the loudness policy, and issue a command to the sound-generating device to reduce the volume. The sound measuring device may be selected because it is close to or in the same room as the sound-generating device. A management system may set and store a sound level limit as a loudness policy for a device, room, building, community, or more.

The system then checks a database storing supplemental content to determine whether supplemental content associated with the identified object is available. When supplemental content associated with the identified object is available within the database, the system modifies the received segment of the primary content to highlight the identified object and displays the modified segment of the primary content on the user equipment device for consumption.

Abstract: Each user in a group watch session is identified, as is a media asset being consumed by the users. The media asset comprises a plurality of segments, and an availability level of each user is determined for each segment of the media asset. If the availability level of the user for a given segment is below a threshold level, at least one function of a chat application is disabled on a device associated with the user for at least the duration of the segment. If the availability level of the user for a given segment meets or exceeds the threshold level, including when the availability level rises to or above the threshold level after having been below the threshold level, the at least one function of the chat application is enabled or reenabled.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for identifying related media content items. First media content item is outputted on a device. A user interface input requesting media content related to the first media content item is received. Metadata is accessed for a portion of the first media content item within a predetermined time period away from a pause position of the first media content item to identify topic keyword. An offer to interrupt the first media content item to output content related to the topic keyword is displayed. In response to offer’s acceptance, a portion of an identified related media content item that is associated with the identified topic keyword is identified. The portion of the identified related media content item is transmitted for display while the media content is paused. The device then resumes displaying the media content item.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for transmitting a content item to a user device using multiple delivery protocols. The system receives, at a content source, a request for the content item from the user device. The system splits a digital stream of the content item into a first video signal and a second video signal. The system then transmits, via a unicast server, the first video signal for the content item to the user device, and transmits, via a multicast server, the second video signal for the content item to the user device. The system then causes for presentation on the user device the first video signal followed by the second video signal. In other embodiments, the system is optimized between the unicast delivery of a content item and a peer-to-peer delivery.
