Abstract: A system and method for providing captioning in a conference. In an illustrative embodiment, the method includes establishing a conference between a first participant and a second participant. The conference exhibits an exchange of a first type of media between the participants. A user option is provided to augment the conference with a second type of media corresponding to the first type of media. The second type of media is then generated based on one or more conference parameters in response to the signal. In a more specific embodiment, the second type of media is automatically generated. The first type of media is provided approximately concurrently with the second type of media. The second type of media, which may represent text captions, is then selectively provided to one or more participants in the conference based on predetermined preferences.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided in one example embodiment and includes a content player that receives a request for content from an endpoint and evaluates whether a given portion of the content has already been multicasted. If the portion has been multicasted, then the endpoint is connected to a multicast version of the portion of the content, and if the portion has not been previously multicasted then the portion of content is added to a multicast transmission schedule. In more specific embodiments, the content player requests a piece of content from a content source and segments the piece of content into clips to be delivered to one or more endpoints. In still other embodiments, if the portion has not been previously multicasted then the portion of content is sent over a unicast channel.

Abstract: Collecting debug information includes facilitating a communication session for an endpoint operated by a user. One or more user-driven conditions are monitored, where a user-driven condition results from an action by the user. Data is gathered during the monitoring. Whether the communication session is satisfactory or unsatisfactory is determined from the one or more user-driven conditions. Monitoring is discontinued if the communication session is satisfactory, and debug information is generated from the gathered data if the communication session is unsatisfactory.

Abstract: Techniques for processing impedance data to provide an early warning for heart failure decompensation are described. An example device may be configured to measure intrathoracic impedance values, and increment an index when a determined impedance is less than a reference impedance. The incrementing may be based on the difference between the reference impedances and the determined impedance. In some examples, the amount of incrementing is reduced based on a variability of the impedances, or increased over time so long as the index remains above a threshold, e.g., zero. In some examples, the manner is which the reference impedances are determined changes over time to, for example, address rapid changes in impedance after device or system implantation. In some examples, the index is compared to a threshold to determine whether to provide an alert. In some examples, two thresholds are used to provide hysteresis.

Abstract: A method in one embodiment includes receiving, by a mobile client device, an incoming call sent by a caller, a caller ID being associated with the incoming call. A node connected to a packet-based network is accessed to obtain information about the caller. Information about the caller is then received from the node by the mobile client device. This information is applied to a set of client rules that selects a specific ring tone from a plurality of ring tones stored on the mobile client device. Finally, the specific ring tone is generated on the mobile client device to announce the incoming call.

Abstract: A system and method for providing fault tolerant IP services includes establishing a first communication session between an originating telephony device and an application server, through a primary call manager. Failure of the primary call manager may be detected. A second communication session between the application server and a destination telephony device may be established via a back-up call manager. The first communication and the second communication session may be coupled at the application server to establish two-way communication between the originating telephony device and the destination telephony device.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method dynamically configures a BL bandwidth in a conference based on bandwidth capabilities in the video conferencing network. In one embodiment, the conference may include any combination of endpoints characterized as BL endpoints and SVCL endpoints. The method includes determining one or more bandwidth capabilities for a plurality of endpoints participating in a conference. The bandwidth capabilities for each respective endpoint may be based on its video decoding capability, the maximum bit-rate it can accept, the video encoding capability of the other endpoints, or a bandwidth constraint manifestation in a portion of the network, etc.
