Abstract:
A cabinet for a refrigerator is formed from a twin sheet thermoformed panel (1) divided into a plurality of wall sections, (8, 9, 10) by seams (6) where the twin sheets (2, 3) contact. The panel is folded to form the rear (10) and two side walls (8, 9) of a refrigerator cabinet, and top end cap and a base plinth are fitted to retain the walls in position. Refrigeration system components are carried on the base plinth. The walls (8, 9) and back (10) are secured by having their upper and lower edges (25, 30) fitted within peripheral channels (28, 29) on the top end cap (20) and the base plinth (21). Additionally they may be further secured by fusing contacting portions (65, 76) of the inner sheet of the panel in the region adjacent folded seams (6). The panel is preferably filled with rigid insulating foam while still supported on the thermoforming mold. The seams (6) are preferably provided on the back face (61) of the cabinet, spaced from the corners between side and rear faces, providing improved aesthetics with the fold lines hidden. An improved heater for softening seams between wall sections is disclosed.
Abstract:
An ultra-low temperature refrigeration system (10) comprising a housing (12) and a door (14) which together define an interior storage compartment (16). The system (10) uses multiple layers (20,22) of varying insulative materials to insulate the housing (12), including conventional foam (20) and vacuum insulation panels (22), to balance cost, size, and capacity considerations. The vacuum insulation panels (22) are provided with beveled edges (26) or otherwise positively interfacing edges so as to overlap adjacent panels and present a more reliably insulative seam. The system (10) further includes a self-defrosting pressure equalization port (30) for automatically equalizing interior and exterior pressures.
Abstract:
An insulated structure is formed by injection of a foamed thermal-insulating material created by foaming into a space between a plastic board and metal plate with a disposition of copper pipes. A non-halogenated organophosphorus compound having a molecular weight over 150 as an additive with an OH group as a functional group is mixed with the raw materials of the foamed thermal-insulating material including polyol, a foam stabilizer, a catalyst, a foaming agent having at least one component of hydrocarbon, and an organic polyisocyanates. By adding a non-halogenated organophosphorus compound, which has a molecular weight over 150 as an additive with an OH group as a functional group, the burning rate of the foamed thermal-insulating material becomes the same as that of the foamed thermal-insulating material which uses CFC11 as a foaming agent. Also, the possibilities of phosphor corrosion by free ionization to copper pipes, which are disposed inside of the insulated structure, are eliminated and phosphorus transfer to the plastic board and worries of food contamination are also eliminated.
Abstract:
A refrigerating apparatus improves the insulating effect of a refrigerating chamber which is maintained at ultra low temperatures by a twin refrigerating apparatus. A vertical ultra low-temperature freezer 1 is composed of an insulating frame with a composite structure of a vacuum insulating panel and a foam insulating material, an insulating door with a composite structure of vacuum insulating panels and a foam insulating material, and a twin refrigerating apparatus which cools goods stored in the insulating frame. Ultra low temperatures are produced by the twin refrigerating apparatus in which a high-temperature side refrigerant circuit and a low-temperature side refrigerant circuit are in cascade connection.
Abstract:
A portable soft sided insulated container has an impermeable liner that provides a liquid holding barrier. The liner is folded from a single monolithic plastic sheet to reduce or eliminate the need for heat welded seams. The liner seats within the container and has a releasable attachment around its lip for mating with the rim of the container. The container has an insulated lid so that the entire assembly may be closed. The liner can be removed for cleaning, or replacement if punctured. When not in use the entire assembly can be folded into a collapsed position for storage. The container has two storage chambers that share a common insulated dividing wall.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a door for a refrigerator appliance having reinforcing corner brackets that structurally complete the corners of the door. The corner brackets are located at the door corners of the vertical and horizontal side walls of the outer door skin. The brackets structurally replace and reinforce the horizontal side wall immediately adjacent the vertical side wall with a thicker, stronger material, such as, metal or steel, so that loading normally transferred to the outer door skin through the horizontal side wall at this corner location is instead transferred directly to the brackets mounted in the door. The horizontal side wall at the corner adjacent the vertical side wall has a cut-out or an open section. The brackets each have an opening positioned at the cut-out section. The opening is adapted to receive a hinge pin or closure cap. The door has an elongate supporting strut in the form of a hollow cylindrical tube engaging the brackets to reinforce the corners. The strut extends adjacent the one vertical side wall for supporting the corner brackets within the door to reinforce the door. Reinforcement brackets and tubes are located on each side of the door.
Abstract:
A refrigerator door for use in a refrigerator appliance has an outer door panel, an inner door liner, a metal reinforcing collar and a paper sheet. The collar has a generally rectangular frame that extends over a peripheral border of a central portion of the door liner. The collar also includes sidewall flanges which extend rearwardly from the frame around a corner at the peripheral border of the central liner portion and over an inner wall of a dyke sidewall of the liner. The collar provides localized support for shelves carried by the door liner and improves door rigidity. The sheet of paper extends across an opening in the middle of the frame of the collar to further improve door rigidity.
Abstract:
A lightweight, insulated chest and method are provided for transportation and storage of perishable and other items which require a temperature-controlled environment. The chest includes insulated side walls, bottom and a hinged cover which is pneumatically sealed to prevent tampering and for thermal security. The chest includes a fluid conduit within the cover for air evacuation and depressurization of the interior and also includes a conduit to provide a vacuum between the walls of the sides and bottom which contain a rigid polymeric foam insulation.
Abstract:
Non-planar integral evacuated insulation panels and a method for making these by providing grooves in the filler material prior to enveloping said filler and forming by evacuating, which method allows to make evacuated insulation panels of specific non-planar shapes depending on the depth and shape of the grooves.
