Abstract: A first thermoplastic component and a second thermoplastic component including a first joint portion and a second joint portion, respectively, are provided. A least a portion of a surface area of each of the first and second joint portions include a respective first and second mating surface. The first and second mating surfaces of the respective first and second joint portions are positioned in contact with one another. The first and second joint portions are fusion joined. Fusion joining the first and second joint portions forms a fused unitary portion of the first and second thermoplastic components.

Abstract: A composite structural component includes a longitudinally extending elongated tubular duct of a first material having a first coefficient of thermal expansion, and a plurality of longitudinally extending elongated reinforcing members of a second material. Each of the reinforcing members is secured to the tubular duct along a length of the reinforcing member at spaced apart locations on the tubular duct, with the second material having a second coefficient of thermal expansion less than the first coefficient of thermal expansion, such that the composite structural component has an effective coefficient of thermal expansion in the longitudinal direction that is less than 25% of the first coefficient of thermal expansion. Each of the plurality of reinforcing members is retained in a corresponding one of a plurality of longitudinally extending recesses formed in a peripheral wall of the tubular duct.

Abstract: A device for welding profiled elements in plastic material includes: a base frame supporting retaining members of respective profiled elements, to engage the profiled elements with corresponding zones to be welded facing one another; a heater for heating the weld zones of the profiled elements; a unit to move the retaining members, to shift the profiled elements between a first reciprocal away direction and a second reciprocal closer direction wherein the zones to be welded are coupled together; and a removal unit utilizing milling The removal unit includes: a supporting frame positioned in correspondence to the retaining members; at least one machining tool; a motor part associated with the tool; and a movement member of the tool, to move it between a first idle condition and a second working condition wherein it is placed between the profiled elements.

Abstract: Welding of transparent material in electronic devices. An electronic device may include an enclosure having at least one aperture formed through a portion of the enclosure. The electronic device may also include a component positioned within the aperture formed through the portion of the enclosure. The component may be laser welded to the aperture formed through the enclosure. Additionally, the component may include transparent material. A method for securing a component within an electronic device may include providing an electronic device enclosure including at least one aperture, and positioning a component within the aperture formed through the enclosure. The component positioned within the aperture may include a transparent material. The method may also include welding the component to the electronic device enclosure.

Abstract: A method of forming a scarf joint between first and second elongate composite components, each having a complimentary tapered end surface is disclosed. At least one of the components is formed of a stack of fibre layers impregnated in resin, with the tapered end surface being formed by each fibre layer extending longitudinally progressively further than the adjacent layer. The method comprises applying adhesive to at least one of the tapered end surfaces, attaching a moulding tool around the first and second elongate components with their tapered end surfaces being adjacent to one another, applying a positive pressure increase to urge the tapered surfaces towards one another without locally reducing the pressure below the vapour pressure of the resin or adhesive throughout the curing process, and curing the resin and adhesive in the moulding tool with the pressure applied.

Abstract: A mobile waterstop welding apparatus includes a first and second support member for supporting a first and second waterstop section, respectively. The second support member is movable between a loading configuration, a heating configuration, and a welding configuration. In the loading configuration, the first and second support members are spaced apart so that the first and second waterstop sections may be loaded onto the first and second support members. In the heating configuration, the first and second support members are spaced apart so that a heating iron may be placed in-between respective welding ends of the first and second waterstop sections. In the welding configuration, the first and second support members are moved towards each other so as to weld the first and second waterstop sections together at their respective welding ends. During the welding process, a spring assembly may urge the first and second support members towards each other.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are exemplary embodiments of linings, liners, and methods of providing a liner or lining for a tank. An exemplary embodiment includes a method of providing a liner or lining for a tank. In this exemplary embodiment, the method includes extrusion welding a pair of sheets together by infusing a molten thermoplastic material along an interface and within a gap between the pair of sheets. The method also includes extrusion welding the pair of sheets to a bottom sheet by infusing the molten thermoplastic material along and between the pair of sheets and the bottom sheet.
