Abstract: An entity, such as a mobile device or base station, measures downlink position referencing signals (PRS) occasions or uplink position sounding referencing signal occasions for supporting estimating the position of the mobile device. The entity, for example, performs a plurality of positioning measurements from a plurality of consecutive PRS occasions received in a bundle from one or more base stations or from a mobile device. Each PRS occasion may include one or more slots and may be narrowband or non-narrowband. The bundled, e.g., consecutive, PRS occasions may be transmitted with a periodicity that is sufficient to maintain a desired throughput. Moreover, with the use of bundled PRS occasions, power consumption of the mobile device, as well as effects of clock drift and mobile device movement, may be minimized.

Abstract: A wireless network including user equipment (UE) and base stations is configured to perform position determination with low latency and high availability within the Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) framework. For example, the UE may be integrated as a sensor in a motion control system or similar applications. The UE and base stations are synchronized with the TSN clock, and are configured to perform positioning measurements at a specific time point within the TSN framework. The time point, for example, may be a global sampling point, at which all sensor nodes in the TSN framework perform position measurements. A location server may be provided with the positioning measurements or a position estimate from the UE and provide the position estimate to an external client, such as a motion controller in a motion control system.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The described techniques relate to improved methods, systems, devices, and apparatuses that support aperiodic and cross component carrier positioning reference signals (PRSs). Generally, the described techniques provide for receiving a dynamic trigger indicating that a user equipment (UE) is to monitor for one or more downlink PRSs. The UE may generate a timing measurement for the downlink PRSs, and may transmit a measurement report that indicates the timing measurement to a transmission/reception point. A UE may also transmit a capability indicator, indicating that the UE is capable of maintaining phase coherence for a PRS that spans multiple component carriers, receive control signaling that indicates multiple component carries on which the PRS is phase coherent, generate a timing measurement for the PRS based on the control signaling, and transmit a measurement report that indicates the timing measurement to the transmission/reception point.

Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices, and systems for beam group reporting for positioning in new radio (NR) wireless communications systems. In some wireless communications systems, multiple PRS resources, e.g., a beam group, received by a user equipment (UE) from the same network entity may be used to produce a combined Time of Arrival (TOA) measurement for the reference or target to derive an Reference Signal Time Difference (RSTD) estimate. The UE provides to a network entity an indication of the PRS resources in the beam group, which may be specifically or generally identified. Additionally, parameters associated with the beam group are provided, such as a relative quality of the TOA measurement for each PRS resource in the subset, a spread of the TOA measurements in the subset, a relative signal strength of each PRS resource in the subset, or a spread of the signal strength in the subset.

Abstract: Techniques described herein provide ways in which a quantity of signaling may be limited between a user equipment (UE) and a location server (LS) for a location session and a positioning protocol such as LPP or LPP/LPPe. The positioning protocol may be enhanced to allow the LS to indicate to the UE a limit on the overall size of assistance data (AD) that the UE can request and/or a limit on the overall amount of location information (LI) that the UE can return. A recipient UE can then prioritize any request for AD such that more important AD should fit within the size limit. The recipient UE can also prioritize returned location measurements such that more useful measurements are included in a message to the LS that is compliant to the limit indicated by the LS.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for determining a distance (or range) between a first wireless entity and a second wireless entity. In an aspect, the first wireless entity transmits a first positioning reference signaling (PRS) signal to the second wireless entity at a first time, where the first PRS signal is received by the second wireless entity at a second time, and receives a second PRS signal from the second wireless entity at a third time, where the second PRS signal is transmitted by the second wireless entity at a fourth time. The first wireless entity enables the distance to be determined by a location computing entity, for example, by a location server, based on the first, second, third, and fourth times. The first wireless entity may be a mobile device or a base station and the second wireless entity may be the other of the mobile device or base station.

Abstract: Techniques described herein may enable more accurate location of a user equipment (UE) that may be subject to movement or velocity. The UE may obtain, during a period of time, location-related measurements of RF signals received at the UE, where the location-related measurements are indicative of a location of the UE during the period of time; The UE may also obtain, using sensors of the UE, velocity-related measurements indicative of a movement or velocity of the UE during the period of time. The UE may send the location-related measurements and the velocity-related measurements to a location server, which may compute a location of the UE based on the measurements. The location computation may allow for movement of the UE during the period of time.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for wireless communication. In an aspect, a UE receives a positioning configuration, the positioning configuration including at least an identifier of a first downlink reference signal from a neighboring cell to be used for estimating a downlink path loss or determining an uplink spatial transmit beam, determines that a first downlink reference signal received from the neighboring cell cannot be used for estimating the downlink path loss or determining the uplink spatial transmit beam, in response to the determination, estimating the downlink path loss or determining the uplink spatial transmit beam based on a second downlink reference signal received from the neighboring cell or a serving cell, and transmits an uplink reference signal for positioning based on the estimated downlink path loss, the determined uplink spatial transmit beam, or a combination thereof.

Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices, and systems for multi-level configuration and reporting for positioning in new radio (NR) wireless communications systems. In some wireless communications systems, a network entity may determine a position or location of a supported user equipment (UE) using radio access network information. The information may be associated with UE-assisted positioning techniques, such as a positioning reference signal (PRS) transmission by the base station and reporting of radio signaling measurements by the UE. The UE may support a multi-level configuration for reporting the radio signaling measurements, including determined report quantities on one or more of a resource level, a set level, or a setting level for the PRS transmission, or generally for the network entity. The described techniques may improve robustness associated with the reporting and, in some examples, reduce signaling overhead associated with determining a positioning and location of the UE.

Abstract: Techniques described herein are directed to increasing a quantity of location-related information broadcast by wireless nodes. In one embodiment, a user equipment (UE) sends a request to a wireless node for broadcast of an increased quantity of location-related information for a wireless access type and the wireless node broadcasts the increased quantity of location-related information using the wireless access type. The wireless node may transfer the request to other wireless nodes which may similarly broadcast the increased quantity of location-related information using the wireless access type. The UE may receive the increased quantity of location-related information using the wireless access type and may then obtain location information such as a location estimate for the UE. In some embodiments, the increased quantity of location-related information may comprise a positioning reference signal or location assistance data.
