Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for determining a distance (or range) between a first wireless entity and a second wireless entity. In an aspect, the first wireless entity transmits a first positioning reference signaling (PRS) signal to the second wireless entity at a first time, where the first PRS signal is received by the second wireless entity at a second time, and receives a second PRS signal from the second wireless entity at a third time, where the second PRS signal is transmitted by the second wireless entity at a fourth time. The first wireless entity enables the distance to be determined by a location computing entity, for example, by a location server, based on the first, second, third, and fourth times. The first wireless entity may be a mobile device or a base station and the second wireless entity may be the other of the mobile device or base station.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for positioning a user equipment (UE). In an aspect, a location server receives a first propagation time measurement and a first plurality of OTDOA RSTD measurements from a first UE at a first time, receives a second propagation time measurement and a second plurality of OTDOA RSTD measurements from a second UE at a second time, determines at least one real-time difference between a pair of base stations based on the first and second propagation time measurements and the first and second pluralities of OTDOA RSTD measurements, wherein the pair of base stations is associated with the first and second pluralities of OTDOA RSTD measurements, receives a third plurality of OTDOA RSTD measurements from a third UE at a third time, and determines a position of the third UE based at least in part on the at least one real-time difference between the pair of base stations.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for optimizing performance of positioning measurements. In an aspect, a wireless mobile device receives a positioning measurements request indicating a plurality of cells of a cellular network to be measured by the wireless mobile device, and, for each cell of the plurality of cells having an entry in a memory of the wireless mobile device: based on an indicator indicating that previous positioning measurements for the cell are valid, retrieves the previous positioning measurements for the cell from the memory of the wireless mobile device and sends the previous positioning measurements for the cell to the location server, and, based on the indicator indicating that the previous positioning measurements for the cell are not valid, performs new positioning measurements for the cell and sends the new positioning measurements for the cell to the location server.

Abstract: Various embodiments include methods of offloading user equipment communication traffic between communications drones. The methods may include receiving, at a candidate communication drone, a replacement request from a requesting communication drone. Radio frequency (RF) communication parameters may be set for the candidate communication drone to take over communications of the requesting communication drone. The RF communication parameters may be determined based on the replacement request and may distinguish the candidate communication drone from the requesting communication drone and at least one neighboring communication drone. The candidate communication drone may move toward a target position adjacent a position of the requesting communication drone without radiating RF communications for taking over communications of the requesting communication drone. In addition, the candidate communication drone may radiate RF communications using the set RF communication parameters to begin taking over communication services from the requesting communication drone upon arriving at the target position.
