Abstract:
Radar and LiDAR sensors play important roles in autonomous vehicles and ADAS (advanced driving assistance systems) in automobiles, however, they can only detect objects in view (line-of-sight). For example, when three vehicles are driving on road in a same lane, and if the first vehicle suddenly brakes, the third vehicle cannot detect it by regular radar and/or LiDAR because the second vehicle in front blocks the view. This invention discloses system and method to enable radar and/or LiDAR to detect vehicles on road that are blocked in view by another vehicle by specially configured active beacon transmitters, and reduce risks of rear-end collisions.
Abstract:
For people with reduced physical ability such as elderly people, risks of bodily injuries are high. Once an injury occurs, a victim suffers, sometimes a victim even may not survive. To help such people, a device without adding much inconvenience in normal life is disclosed. The device is able to detect dangerous conditions and automatically deploy airbags when needed to prevent or mitigate potential bodily injuries.
Abstract:
A maxillary tuberosity holding bite block is disclosed. The maxillary tuberosity holding bite block includes a curved tail that embraces a patient's maxillary tuberosity, which allows the bite block to hold the patient's jaws in a stable position, regardless of whether or not the patient has edentulous jaws. Moreover, the maxillary tuberosity holding bite block may serve as a carrier for sensors and endoscopes so it may serve as an intra-oral sensor-based positioning and navigation device that sense and track the movement and position of sensor-equipped surgical instruments.
Abstract:
For people with reduced physical ability such as elderly people, risks of bodily injuries are high. Once an injury occurs, a victim suffers, sometimes a victim even may not survive. To help such people, a personal wearable device without adding much inconvenience in normal life is disclosed. This personal wearable device is able to detect dangerous conditions and automatically deploy airbags when needed to prevent or mitigate potential bodily injuries.
Abstract:
A method of updating map data entails capturing an image using a camera, determining a location of an object in the image, creating new map data to represent the object in the image, and updating a map database to include the new map data for the object in the image. This method may be implemented on a GPS-enabled wireless communications device having an onboard camera which can transmit the new map data to a map server for updating its map database. Determining the position of the object in the image relative to the wireless device may be accomplished using a rangefinder and compass, triangulation of multiple images of the object, or a stereoscopic camera. The accuracy of the GPS position fix may be improved by capturing images of recognizable objects for which location coordinates are available.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, article of manufacture, and a memory structure for providing advertisements with a media program transmitted to a user device are described. The method permits the user to control the presentation of advertisements. In one embodiment, the method receives an identification of the media program to be sent to the user device, transmits metadata defining an advertising break having at least one advertisement opportunity within the media program, at the advertisement opportunity, transmits advertising control options, receives a user selection for the advertising control options, sends the advertisement to the user device according to the user selection for the advertising control options, receives advertising viewing data describing the streaming of the advertisement to the user device, and stores the advertisement viewing data.
Abstract:
Polymer foam is made from a two-component foam system. The foam system includes an A-side component which contains a multifunctional Michael acceptor and a blowing agent that has a boiling temperature in the range −40° C. to +100° C. The system also includes a B-side component that contains a multifunctional carbon-Michael donor, a surfactant and a blowing agent that has a boiling temperature in the range −40° C. to +100° C. The viscosities of each of the components are 2,500 cPs or lower. Foam is made by separately pressurizing the components, then separately depressurizing them so they each at least partially expand. The partially expanded materials are then combined in the presence of a carbon-Michael reaction catalyst to form a reaction mixture which is cured to form the polymer foam.
Abstract:
A wireless user device maintains wireless access via a public land mobile network and, while maintaining such wireless access, participates with one or more other devices in an instant communication session delivered via a carrier instant communications processing element of the public land mobile network. The session communications from the wireless user device are routed through a processing element of a private communication network for an assignment of a generic identifier to the session communications in place of a user identifier of the wireless user device, and then routed back to the public land mobile network to the carrier instant communications processing element for delivery to the one or more other devices in the instant communication session.
Abstract:
A system and method is provided for real-time data transmission using adaptive time compression that is based on an estimation of network load, one or more media properties of the real-time data, and/or a battery level of the mobile device. A first embodiment provides a mobile device operable to transmit real-time data using the adaptive time compression. Another embodiment provides a wireless network operable to transmit real-time data using the adaptive time compression. Another embodiment provides a wireless network operable to determine a time compression ratio, which is used for the adaptive time compression. The time compression ratio might be sent to the mobile device for use by the mobile device in up (reverse) link transmission, or by the mobile device in down (forward) link reception, or both. Another embodiment provides a mobile device operable to enter a low power consumption mode while not actively transmitting or receiving.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for simultaneously measuring concentration of two or more different cations in solution. The methods include the steps of applying a steady state polarization technique to a solution comprising two or more different cations; measuring the limiting currents of the solution; and correlating the limiting currents with the concentration of the different cations. The system includes a working electrode; a potentiostat; a counter electrode; a reference electrode; a solution comprising different cations to be analyzed; and a model for correlating the limiting currents with the concentration of the pair cations. The working electrode may be any electrode compatible with the media, including noble metals, carbon, or combinations thereof. In some embodiments, the working electrode is a rotating disk electrode (RDE).
