摘要: An apparatus and method for dewatering sludges and the like as part of landfill operations by electrokinetic techniques including placing anode and cathode electrode modules in contact with the sludge and applying electrical energy to the electrodes to establish an electric field in the sludge. Charged particles within the sludge, including macro-molecules, colloids, and suspended particles, electrophoretically migrate to the oppositely charged counter electrode and consolidate. A filtration media located at one of the electrodes permits the electro-osmotic removal of water from the sludge to encourage solids densification. The electrical energy applied to the electrodes is a chopped, time-varying, intermittent unidirectional current having a rapid rise edge which provides dewatering results comparable to prior methods that used direct current or full AC current but at substantially reduced energy consumption to provide more economical dewatering. Presently preferred optimum conditions for practicing the invention are also disclosed, including means for applying the techniques of the disclosure to a continuous dewatering method and an apparatus for practicing that method. The application of the electrokinetic techniques to other processes such as electrodialysis, including electrolysis (using a membrane or bipolar membrane), desalinization or metathesis; and electrowinning, including electroplating; and other electrophoretic processes is suggested.

摘要: An ultrafiltration system has a plurality of filter modules coupled in a parallel arrangement. The flow rate at the output of each filter module is detected. When the flow rate of a given module falls below a threshold value, that module is disconnected from the ultrafiltration system and automatically coupled into a regeneration circuit so that the filter module can be cleaned. Once regenerated, the filter module is recoupled into the ultrafiltration system. If the regeneration circuit is already in use when a filter module is detected to be in need of regeneration, that module is placed in a queue for regeneration once the regeneration circuit is free, and all other modules previously placed in queue have been regenerated. While awaiting regeneration, the filter modules are kept in service in the ultrafiltration system.

摘要: Moisture is removed from stack gas prior to measuring concentrations of gaseous constituents in the stack gas. A sample of the stack gas is passed through a cooling zone wherein the gas is cooled to a temperature in the range of about 40.degree.-45.degree. F., after which the cooled gas is passed through a condenser. The gas rises through the condenser wherein water condenses out of the gas and falls by gravity into a U-shaped trap. A drain passage communicates with the downstream side of the trap whereby condensed water can be drained periodically out of the trap to control the amount of water in the trap. The dried gas passes out of the condenser into one or more gas constituent monitoring stations.

摘要: The package is of the blister variety and includes a paperboard component, a transparent plastic sheet heat sealed to the paperboard component and a plastic blister component. The blister is pivotally connected to the paperboard-plastic sheet composite. A portion of the paperboard plastic sheet composite is secured to the blister to form a latch whereby the package, after being initially opened, can be reclosed. The package can be used for any product which is periodically used and stored between uses in its package.

摘要: A plastic caul for embossing wood panels with grain patterns comprises a laminate of sheets of epoxy prepreg made of such heat insensitive non-cellulosic webs such as fiberglass or woven graphite impregnated with partially cured epoxy resin. The caul may also include a metal core or backing sheet. The embossing face of the caul contains a relief design, usually transferred from a natural wood grain pattern. To form the caul, a mold is first prepared. The mold may comprise a textured wood panel, the grain surface of which has been sealed with a material such as urethane varnish or a water reducible imine catalyzed acrylic varnish with a urethane additive. The sealed textured face is then coated with a release agent. This treatment prevents the panel and future caul from sticking together. Sheets of the epoxy prepreg are then layered between the treated surface of the panel and a backing sheet and compressed under heat and pressure until substantially cured. In this manner, a relief of the textured design of the wood panel is transferred to the caul as it is further cured. The plastic caul may then be separated from the wood panel of the mold and fully cured by use or baking, or both. The configuration of the wood panel assumed in relief by the plastic cauls is thus permanently maintained and the caul may be used for embossing overlaid wood panels with the textured grain pattern of the panel used in making the mold.

摘要: A reclosable carton includes a front wall provided with a lightly nicked circular portion. A top wall panel connected to a back wall is provided with a top wall panel extension defining a cover flap. Centrally located on the cover flap is a debossed circular area which is adapted to overlie and be adhesively secured to the lightly nicked circular portion on the front wall panel. As the cover flap is lifted by pulling outwardly and upwardly on the tab, it is torn between the pair of parallel score lines and the lightly nicked portion of the front wall adheres to the cover flap and is removed from the front wall to provide a dispensing opening through which articles may be singly dispensed from the interior of the carton. The cover flap may be rotated and pushed back against the carton front wall to cause the lightly nicked area of removed paperboard stock adhered to the cover flap to frictionally lock within the opening to reclose the carton.

摘要: A partition for utilization in a container to provide appropriate support for bottles, jugs or containers which may be fragile, wherein the partition is formed from a single planar blank having a central opening and a first pair of partition walls foldably connected to each other on one side of the opening. A second pair of partition walls are foldably connected to each other on the other side of the opening. The opening is partially bounded by parallel longitudinal edges of the opening, with each of these opening edges being provided by aligned edges of a pair of the partitions. The blank is foldable, with the partition walls being folded back on the order of 90.degree. with respect to each other as the said walls are folded toward each other so that the fold line connections between the two sets of walls meet and the partitions extend at angles to each other. The partition structure, when inserted into a container, provides partition walls which do not readily rotate with respect to each other and therefore do not interfere with automatic loading devices. The opening in the blank between the walls is provided with extensions into the opening and extensions exterior of the partition structure to provide a support and base for the partition when it is folded up from the blank and inserted into the container.

摘要: A bag for containing a flowable product comprises a plurality of panels hingedly coupled along fold lines, an opening at one end of the bag, and a flap hingedly coupled to one panel along a fold line for overlapping an opposite panel and closing the opening. An adhesive layer extends across the entire width of the flap to seal the flap to the opposite panel. The adhesive layer seal has a reduced bonding strength adjacent one end of the flap to facilitate opening of the flap at the reduced bond strength section. The reduced bonding strength is provided by an adhesive coating comprising kaolin clay. This arrangement is particularly useful in heavy weight bags which are sealed by a hot melt adhesive.
