摘要:
A device and method for stimulating blood flow velocity in a leg of the body for the prevention of Deep Vein Thrombosis in an effective and relatively painless manner which, in one case, includes an apparatus for compressing a foot in a manner to drive a substantial amount of blood from veins of the foot therein into blood vessels of the leg and an apparatus operably associated with the compressing apparatus for electrically stimulating leg muscles as the driven blood from the foot passes therethrough such that the muscles drivingly enhance blood flow velocity.

An air sac for use on a low air loss bed. The air sac is provided with a releasable connector for retaining the air sac to the low air loss bed and with a nipple for receiving air from a gas supply source to inflate the air sac. The air sac is also provided with a cutout which allows the patient to be rolled toward one end of the air sac when the air sac is inflated. A pillar is provided on the end of the air sac toward which the patient is rolled when the air sac is inflated to retain the patient on the air sac. The air sacs are arranged in sets with every other sac mounted to the frame of the low air loss bed in alternating arrangement whereby the patient is rolled first in one direction when the air sacs of one set are inflated and then back in the other direction when the air sacs in the first set are deflated and the air sacs in the second set are inflated.

Method and apparatus for preventing bed sores in a bedridden patient. A low air loss bed is provided including a frame, a first set of substantially rectangular air bags for supporting a patient thereon mounted transversely on the frame, and a second set of substantially rectangular air bags for supporting a patient thereon mounted transversely on the frame, and all of the air bags are connected to a gas source. The conformation of the air bags is such that, when the first set of air bags is inflated, the patient supported thereon is moved toward the first side of the frame of the low air loss bed and, when the second set of air bags is inflated while the first set of air bags is deflated, the patient is moved toward the second side of the low air loss bed. The conformation of the air bags also retains the patient on the top surface of the air bags when the patient is rolled in one direction or the other. The first and second sets of air bags are mounted on a frame which is itself divided into sets of transversely mounted air bags so that the frame can be contoured to the patient's comfort. Also provided is means for additionally inflating the air bags under those portions of the patient which are heaviest when the frame of the bed is inclined for patient comfort. The method of the present invention comprises inflating a plurality of air bags to a selected pressure for supporting a patient thereon, inflating a first set of air bags to a pressure higher than the selected pressure to cause the patient support thereon to be rolled in a first direction on the air bags, and thereafter deflating the first set of air bags while inflating a second set of air bags to a higher pressure than the selected pressure to cause the patient to be rolled in a second direction on the air bags. A third set of air bags can be provided in which the selected pressure is maintained, thereby substantially immobilizing a portion of the patient'body.

A heat exchange system for cooling and/or heating the patient support surface of an inflatable support appliance such as a low air loss bed is disclosed. Tubing and bladders carrying a circulating heat exchange medium is used to locally heat or cool the air within the inflatable cushion, transferring heat to or away from the patient supporting surface. Specially designed cushions with pouches for hold the bladders in close proximity to the supporting surface without compromising the uniform support characteristics of the low air loss bed.

A patient interface system includes a fluid transfer subsystem comprising a primary fluid transfer element fluidically communicating with the wound and a secondary fluid transfer element/manifold in contact therewith. A drape subsystem covers the fluid transfer elements and includes a film material membrane. A fluid conveying subsystem includes a vacuum source connected to the secondary fluid transfer element/manifold by a suction tube for creating a negative, sub-atmospheric pressure within the interface system for extracting fluids collected in the interface system. A fluid supply is provided for supplying various types of fluids to the interface system.

An apparatus adjusts the pressures of a therapeutic mattress surface in accordance with the angular position of that surface. The apparatus comprises an angular position sensor and a rotation sensor which are housed together in an enclosure having a top surface in the form of a circular plate. The circular plate mounts either on the surface of the mattress or on the bottom of a bed frame supporting the mattress. The angular position and rotation sensors measure the horizontal plane referenced perpendicular to the direction of the force of gravity. The apparatus further comprises a controller blower valve assembly which processes data received from the angular position and rotation sensors to maintain, increase, or decrease the pressures within the mattress.

A pressure-relieving therapeutic mattress system that uniquely combines three releasably connected main air cushions that are separately controlled for supporting corresponding portions of a patient at minimal patient interface pressures, together with a sculpted foam sub-mattress supported on a versatile, lightweight frame having a specially-adapted hard pan surface and an efficient, lightweight, variable-speed air supply system.

A fluidized bead bed having a scale integrated into the frame of the bed for providing a continuous readout of the weight of a patient supported on the upper surface of the bed. The bed includes a fluidized bead bed support mounted atop a frame such that a torque, corresponding to the supported, load is transmitted to the beam arms cantilevered from each end of the frame and extending to the longitudinal median of the bed along one side thereof. Springs oppose the torque and LVDT's are provided at the distal ends of the arms to produce an electrical signal with pulses of an amplitude related to the weight of the patient on the bed. The distal ends of both beam arms are protected and confined in their movements by a lower guard in the form of a single U-shaped channel, and the springs are mounted to the frame by means of upstanding supports on the top surface thereof. A control panel incorporates a signal processor for providing an accurate but readable output based on the LVDT signals. The processor includes a synchronous detector, an analog low-pass filter, an A/D converter, and a digital filter. The digital filter effectuates a highly weighted average characterized by a filter coefficient which is ordinarilly 128 but may be automatically or selectively decreased in order to quicken an accurate readout following a rapid weight change.

A fluidized patient support apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus utilizes granular material beneath a patient support surface which when fluidized by pressurized gas uniformly distributes the pressure imparted to the body of a patient lying thereon. The apparatus includes means for recirculating the fluidizing gas in order to avoid raising the ambient temperature of a room in which the bed is situated with exhaust gas. Also provided are a pair of inflatable bladders and selective fluidization means to assist in turning and transferring the patient.
