An index portion of a record disk unit is formed by cutting out a portion of a flange which is formed continuously along a peripheral edge of the record disk unit. When one of selection rods is pushed against a spring which urges the selection rod in a retreating direction, to rotate a stylus presssure release actuating wheel, an engaging member, formed on the selection rod, is elastically deformed by the edge of the flange and rides over the flange into engagement therewith. When the index portion of the record disk unit comes around to a position coincident with the engaging member, the engaging member is allowed to pass through the cut-out portion of the index portion, to thereby return the selection member to its original position by a spring force to be applied a stylus pressure on a pickup.

A sound transmitting member carries a pair of stylus force releasing projections disposed at the inlet portion of the slit. Both the centering projection and the stylus force releasing projections extend to intersect the slit. A simplified sound reproducing device having external output shafts disposed beneath the plane of rotation of a record disc and at positions corresponding to the starting point of sound reproduction of each record groove. Each of the external output shafts actuates predetermined external components for action corresponding to the content of the recorded item in the record groove. A transmission is provided for connecting a center pin to each of the external output shafts. The transmission includes a driving wheel fixed around the center pin, a revolvable bearing frame member which is journally connected for rotation with the center pin when under engagement with a coupling member, a planetary shaft carried by the revolvable bearing frame member, a planetary gear wheel supported by the planetary shaft capable of movement in an axial direction and rotated by meshing with the driving wheel. A pair of guide members fixedly disposed to the center pin, one positioned axially in front of and the other behind the driving wheel to hold the planetary wheel from both sides and to urge it to move axially together with the driving wheel, and driven wheels fixedly coupled to each external output shaft capable of meshing with the planetary wheel only when the pickup is supplied with stylus pressure. A coupling member is constructed such that the planetary shaft can be stationary, regardless of the rotation of the center pin, when the pickup is loaded with stylus pressure.

A one-way clutch is provided between a constant torque spring motor and a turn table. A locking projection in the one-way clutch acts to engage, through a rotatable locking piece, a locking face facing to the opposite direction of rotation of the record disc for reproducing sounds.By virtue of this locking driving force of the constant torque spring motor is transmitted to the turn table, while in the winding operation, applied force can be released by the slant face inclined toward the direction of rotation of the record disc and thereby can be disconnected with the turn table. Due to this simple construction, a one-way clutch applicable to this kind of constant torque spring motor for use in a sound reproducing device can be easily fabricated and assembled. In order to prevent any harmful frictional slippage of the pickup on the face of record disc by reverse turning of an indexing disc, another one-way clutch of similar construction is disposed between the indexing disc and the face plate.

A plurality of record grooves (2) are formed on a record disc (3) starting point (4). The grooves are positioned at radially different points of the record disc. When a pickup (6) is returned to each starting point (4) of the record groove (2) by means of a return spring (7) acting on a tone arm (8), the pickup (6) is positioned so as to be able to select one of the starting points of the record grooves. The selected groove corresponds to the planar position of this device, i.e., whether vertical or horizontal. This enables a sound transmitting member (22), which urges the pickup toward the record disc in playing, to be raised up and released from the stylus force when the pickup reaches the end or terminal point of sound reproduction. An inclined face of the cam, for lowering the swingable arm (13), subsequent to its initial raising up motion, is positioned at a point prior to the starting points of the record grooves, namely, in such a manner that the pickup is depressed onto the record disc prior to the arrival of the starting points at the position of the device where said pickup is lowered.

For shifting a reproducing stylus from the outer to the inner record across a spacing therebetween during playback, a shift stylus is carried by a pickup arm at the rear of the reproducing stylus. Shorter than the reproducing stylus, the shift stylus is adapted to ride in a groove in the outer record to permit the reproducing stylus to be carried across the spacing between the records by the pickup arm. The reproducing stylus engages and starts following a groove in the inner record as the shift stylus leaves the outer record.

A sound reproducing device is disclosed in which an index tracking portion formed on a record disc consists of a notch on the continous flange of rotational periphery of a record disc unit. A center pin of the device is normally urged outside of a casing by a spring which also urges an index setting arm with a push button type index setting rotary knob supported on the tip end of said center pin. An index setting portion consists of a plurality of openings formed in the casing and arranged along the rotational plane of said record disc unit. The index setting arm has a resilient engaging hook on its lower tip end, the engaging hook directed toward the rotational center of the record disc unit. The engaging hook engages with the flange of the record disc unit where a specific index setting portion is selected by rotation of the push button type index setting knob. Pushing the index setting knob down makes the engaging hook pass through an index setting openings. The center pin keeps a speaker unit out of engagement with a pickup such that the pickup returns to the starting point of sound reproduction. The engaging hook returns through the index tracking portion when the index tracking portion comes on the engaging hook by rotational movement of the record disc unit, causing the center pin to retract so as to impart stylus pressure to the stylus by returning the speaker unit by a stylus pressure spring.

The output of the flip-flop circuit is supplied through a time constant circuit to a drive and control circuit for operating a sound generating device having a reproducing stylus and a recorded disk. A reset signal producing circuit is provided to produce a reset signal for the flip-flop circuit when a second sound is sensed by the microphone within a predetermined time period set by the time constant circuit, thereby stopping the operation of the sound generating device.

A stopper projects radially outward from the periphery of a rotary turn table and a plurality of selection poles are disposed such that any one of the selection poles, when depressed, projects into the locus of rotation of the stopper. A spring fabricated to have energizing pieces, the same in number as the number of selection poles, is positioned within a casing so that two mating parts can engage with each other. Each energizing piece is made electrically conductive and the spring also urges each selection pole toward the outside of the casing. A metal guide plate holds the selection poles 16 which are disposed along the periphery of the turn table within the casing and further guides the selected selection pole into the locus of rotation of the stopper. The selected selection pole will urge corresponding spring into engagement with the guide plate. Each selection pole is provided with a projection which urges the spring into contact with the metal guide plate when any one of the selection poles is depressed from outside of the casing. Furthermore, a circuit between a motor and a power source is connected to both the metal spring and the metal guide plate to cause these two parts to act as a pair of mating contacts in a selection switch.
