Abstract:
A flinger or refiner plate for a mechanical refiner including deep notches or holes in feeder bars of the flinger plate and/or open passages or holes in bars of the refiner plate. The open passages and/or holes in the bars significantly reduce stagnate flow zones at the trailing side of the bars during operation of the mechanical refiner. The reduction of the stagnate flow zones may reduce or eliminate fiber accumulation at the trailing side of the bars.
Abstract:
A refining system and process using a specially designed stator refiner plate. The specially designed stator refiner plate includes a major refining surface having a series of bars and grooves, the bars include a leading surface having an irregular surface. The irregular surface hosts a series of protrusions extending along the bar. The bar further comprises a trailing surface that is relatively smooth compared to the leading surface. The trailing surface lacks an irregular surface.
Abstract:
A nozzle assembly with a self-cleaning face is provided, having a nozzle body with a liquid flow path defined therethrough with an inlet and a spray outlet. The nozzle body is mounted in a carrier body, and an annular gas flow channel is located about the nozzle body with a gas discharge outlet defined around the spray outlet. A porous surface is located about the annular gas flow channel at the gas discharge outlet. A radiused surface is formed in the carrier body at the air discharge outlet. A pathway is in communication with the porous surface and adapted to provide a low velocity fluid discharge from the porous surface. A spray device and method are also provided using the nozzle assembly with the self-cleaning face. An adaptor for retrofitting an existing nozzle is also provided.
Abstract:
The present disclosure describes an assembly configured to mitigate the harmful effects of smelt fouling, airflow interference, and operator exposure to hot air from the furnace and wind box through use of an extractable startup burner and an isolation chamber engaged to a windbox. The present disclosure also describes a method for safely extracting a startup burner from an active recovery boiler as has method for inserting an extractable startup burner into a recovery boiler during operation.

Abstract:
The present disclosure describes a system for predicting explosions in a dissolving tank. The system includes acoustic emission sensors placed in or around the dissolving tank. By filtering the recorded frequencies to the range which is most sensitive for desired explosions “fingerprints,” it is possible to predict a smelt influx before the smelt influx occurs as well as program response actions to prevent compromising explosions.

Abstract:
A mounting and support mechanism for a rotary feeder gear motor having an adjusting housing, wherein the adjusting housing includes a support flange adjacent the gear motor, a hollow adjusting housing and a support flange adjacent a stationary feeder end cover. Contained within the adjusting housing is a carrier extension wherein the carrier extension at one end encases a stationary bushing, the stationary bushing houses an adjusting shaft to provide movement of a rotor assembly axially, and at the opposite end the carrier extension connects to a bearing carrier mechanism.
Abstract:
A rotary drum for thickening pulp from a slurry, the drum including drainage channels delivering filtrate from a pulp mat on an outer surface of the rotary drum to at least one filtrate chamber at an end of the rotary drum, a flat face valve and plenum chamber assembly in the filtrate chamber. The flat face valve juxtaposed against drainage outlets of the drainage channels, wherein the flat face valve does not block the drainage outlets during a majority of the rotation of the rotary drum. At least one opening on the flat face valve extending through the front surface and aligned with the drainage outlets to provide a fluid passage through the flat face valve and to a plenum chamber behind the flat face valve such that air in the filtrate is collected in the upper portion of the plenum chamber and removed from the rotary drum.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a system and process in which pulp is produced using a chemical mechanical pulping process, during which lignocellulosic material undergoes fiberization without chemical impregnation. Chemical treatment of the lignocellulosic material is performed during or after fiberization of the material to become fiber bundles.
