Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for washing a solids-containing suspension by means of a suction drum washer comprising a drum provided with a filtration surface, a main vacuum source such as a drop leg and washing tubes connected to the frame of the suction drum washer. A washing liquid stream is introduced by a first washing tube is directed to contact the pulp layer on the surface of the drum in a point below 10 degrees after the surface of the suspension and a vacuum of at least 0.1 bar greater than the main vacuum source, i.e. intensified suction is applied by means of a separate vacuum source to filtering surface at the contacting point of the first liquid stream and the pulp layer or maximum of 10 degrees before the contacting point. The intensified suction may be utilized also for boosting end of filtration stage (II) and drying stage (IV). Filtrate from the drying stage (IV) can be used at the same washer as a washing liquid at the first or the second washing tube.
Abstract:
A filter device for filtering a suspension comprises at least one filter for continuous creation of a filter cake containing particles from the suspension; at least one dispensing device configured to apply at least one first wash liquid to the filter cake created by the at least one filter; and at least one steaming unit configured to steam the filter cake using steam, wherein the at least one dispensing device is integrated into a first process chamber and the at least one steaming unit is integrated into a second process chamber separated from the first process chamber by at least one partition wall. The at least one first wash liquid and a second wash liquid used for creating the steam may have boiling temperatures differing by at least 5° C.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a filter assembly for producing a paste-like filter cake and a substantially solids free filtrate or permeate. The filter assembly includes a substantially cylindrical member having an exterior foraminous surface, the cylindrical member being mounted on an elongate shaft for rotating the surface about an axis defined by the shaft. The exterior foraminous surface is covered by a microporous filter media. A stationary housing is positioned adjacent a portion of the exterior surface of the cylindrical member. The stationary housing includes a filter feed inlet and a sealing device and is spaced from the exterior surface a distance sufficient to enable cross flow relative to the filter media. Unique filter seal members promote retention of fluid to be filtered in a filtration area defined by the housing and cylindrical member. As the cylindrical member is rotated about the axis, a cake removal or membrane cleaning device removes filter cake from the filter media. The unique filter seal members enable use of a rotating cylindrical member containing the filter media. The unique design of the filtration device provides high solids production similar to a drum or belt filter without the use of filter aids and provides fine particle removal from a liquid similar to a membrane filter, however with substantially higher solids content than with a conventional membrane filter.
Abstract:
In a causticizing process for separating at least white liquor and lime sludge out of the process, filters in the form of discs or drums are arranged. The filtrations take place under positive pressure and the filters are arranged in a closed system. Such a pressure filter can also be arranged for the separation of sludge.
Abstract:
A drainage deck assembly for a rotary vacuum drum filter having filtrate compartments on the outer surface of the drum comprised of premolded interlocked grid sections formed with integral baffle walls for directing the flow of filtrate outwardly of the filtrate compartments and which grid sections are provided with rows of filtrate receptacle trays in the surface thereof having bottom walls formed with filtrate discharge slots located at a position to prevent return flow of filtrate to the receptacle.
Abstract:
The following invention discloses improvements in thickening devices used in the art of separating solid particles from liquids in a slurry of such particles and liquid having the method steps of causing an imperfectly filtered filtrate to flow by gravity to one outlet and a more perfectly filtered filtrate to flow by gravity toward another outlet.
Abstract:
A rotary drum filter arrangement in which an endless flexible filter belt is trained around at least 270.degree. of the vacuum drum and leaves the vacuum drum for application of a slurry and formation of a cake remote from the drum. In one form of the invention the slurry is applied to a substantially horizontal portion of the belt prior to entry onto the vacuum drum so gravity aids in initial dewatering. In another form of the invention the cake is formed by an auxiliary vacuum drum prior to entry onto the main vacuum drum. By utilizing at least 270.degree. of the vacuum drum after formation of the cake, the invention provides a drier cake, easier adaptation of auxiliary washing and drying equipment and/or permits the use of a smaller vacuum drum.
Abstract:
A main valve having an exhaust port for filtrate and another exhaust port for gases, each being provided with an exchangeable baffle plate covered with wear resisting material. Mounted between the main valve and the wear plate is a main plate having an annular groove, in which the first and the second bridge blocks are fitted.
Abstract:
Apparatus is disclosed for steam drying filter cake formed on a drum or disc vacuum filter mounted for rotation in a container the lower portion of which comprises a feed slurry tank and the upper portion comprises a steam hood or steam dome. Means are provided to control the distribution of steam to the dome; to provide releasable seals for the rotary filter; to provide an improved steam hood; to provide exhaust means for the device and to provide an air cooler for the formed and heated filter cake.
Abstract:
A rotary drum filter comprising a generally annular rotatably driven drum having filtrate compartments which extend generally longitudinally along the drum outer circumference. The filtrate compartments are overlaid by cover elements which have filtrate passages on their outer peripheries inwardly of a foraminous filter medium; and the filtrate passages are communicated with the filtrate compartments by drainage openings in an edge portion of each cover element at intervals along the length of the drum. The drainage openings are constructed to discharge filtrate to their respective communicating filtrate compartments in a direction at least generally towards the discharge ends of the latter whereby the discharging filtrate has a substantial velocity component in such direction.
