    摘要: A lighting system for providing aesthetic and energy efficient lighting, for building interiors and exterior lighting, includes lighting fixtures including a high intensity discharge lamp and a novel lens. The lens is formed as a dropped square pyramid with four triangular lower panels and four generally vertical side walls. Prisms on the inner and outer faces of the lens produce a higher luminous intensity at an angle of about 30.degree. to 50.degree. than at nadir and project light at higher angles toward the corners of the lens than perpendicular to the sides of the lens, thereby producing a generally square, widespread light distribution pattern. The lens cuts off high angle light (with respect to nadir), thereby reducing glare.

    摘要: A louver/lens assembly for placement in the light-emitting opening of a fluorescent light luminaire has a louver assembly mounted in the light-emitting opening of the luminaire. On top of the louver assembly, and between it and the fluorescent tubes, a prism lens, typically formed from a sheet of extruded transparent acrylic material, is placed. The lens sheet is flat on the surface facing the fluorescent tubes in the fixture, and has parallel longitudinal prisms formed in the surface overlying the louver assembly. The prisms are selected to direct light rays passing through the lens assembly downwardly through the openings between the longitudinal and transverse louvers of the louver assembly.

    摘要: An improved traffic signal lamp control system utilizes continuously burning lamps, such as fluorescent lamps or HID lamps, located inside a traffic signal housing or external to the housing to direct light toward the lens apertures of the housing. A light attentuation device, which may be either a mechanical shutter or a liquid crystal panel is placed in the path of light between the continuously energized lamp and the aperture of the housing to either block the passage of light from the lamp through the aperture or permit the passage of light therethrough. The conventional red, amber and green lenses are placed in the apertures, and the conventional traffic signal light control signals are used to operate the attentuation device. Substantial savings in power consumption are encountered since fluorescent lamps and HID lamps consume much less power than incandescent lamps, and considerably increased lamp life can be achieved. When a liquid crystal shutter is used for the attenuation device, the switching is accomplished by low-voltage switching.

    摘要: A "wall-wash" lighting fixture is mounted on the ceiling along the top of a wall to be provided with a substantially uniform illumination downwardly from the fixture. An elongated fluorescent bulb is used as the source of light; and the reflector is comprised of at least a central section and two shorter end sections. The cross-section of the central section of the reflector differs from the cross-section of the end sections in a manner to cause greater amounts of light to be reflected a greater distance downwardly on the wall from the center section than from the end sections. This compensates for the non-uniform light intensity from the fluorescent bulb, and results in a more uniform illumination of the wall below the fixture.
