The present disclosure is directed to various embodiments of systems and methods for cooling a combustion chamber of an engine. One method includes introducing fuel into the combustion chamber of an engine having an energy transfer device that moves through an intake stroke, a compression stroke, a power stroke, and an exhaust stroke. The method further includes monitoring a temperature of the combustion chamber. When the temperature reaches a predetermined value, the method also includes introducing coolant into the combustion chamber only during at least one of the power stroke and the exhaust stroke of the energy transfer device.

A method of manufacturing an earth-boring bit having a fluid plenum and a plurality of fluid pathways includes modeling flow characteristics of the fluid plenum and the plurality of fluid pathways, optimizing the flow characteristics to minimize fluid separation through each fluid pathway, constructing a plenum blank from the optimized model, and sintering matrix power between the plenum blank and a bit head mold to create the fluid plenum and plurality of fluid pathways.
Abstract:
A drill bit configures hydraulic streams from the bit nozzles for the particular cutting structure to be cleaned based on the cutting structure location and geometry. The projected impingement location for each hydraulic stream projected fluid path is customized for a corresponding roller cone, with each nozzle or nozzle receptacle being individually positioned according to improve cone cleaning. At least two nozzles or nozzle receptacles should differ on the drill bit.

The disclosed single pass raised bed preparation system makes use of one or more rows of adjustable height compact discs (4), to mulch up stubble and loosen the soil in the depressed furrows prior to the action of a bed-forming implement (6) mounted behind the discs. At the same time the raised beds are cultivated by two rows of compact discs, with the second row (2) opposite handed to the leading row (1). A roller or crumbler (7) levels and conditions the beds, so that both the beds and the furrows are restored in a single pass to a condition ready for sowing.

A method of operating a communication network having multiple stations, each able to transmit and receive data, so that the network can transmit a message from an originating station to a destination station via at least one opportunistically selected intermediate station. Stations wishing to transmit data transmit probe signals which are responded to by other stations, thereby to identify available stations. When a station has data to send, it transmits probe signals with Request to Send messages, identifying the data to be sent. When a station receives such data for onward transmission, it transmits its own probe signals with a Request to Send message and including identification information relating to the data. The Request to Send messages are received by other stations in the vicinity, so that they serve as an implied acknowledgement of the receipt of the data by the forwarding station without the need for sending explicit confirmation.

Self relieving seals of this invention comprise an elastomeric seal body having a first sealing surface and a second sealing surface for contact with respective drill bit sealing surfaces. The seal includes a pair of external surfaces that each extend along the seal body between the first and second sealing surfaces. The seal includes one or more relief ports that are disposed through the seal body and that have openings through each of the seal body external surfaces. The relief port can be specially configured, e.g., have different diameter sections of constant or variable dimensions, to provide a degree of control over pressure equalization through the seal body when the seal is loaded within the drill bit. The seal may include an element, e.g., solid, tubular, or porous, disposed within the relief port to provide a further desired degree of control over pressure equalization through the seal when the seal is loaded within the drill bit. Surface features, on the seal or the drill bit, can be provided to offset the relief port opening from the rock bit so that it is not blocked off. The seal can include a valve mechanism to provide a further degree of control over fluid passage through the relief port.

Methods and apparatus for masking glazing panels while leaving a peripheral region free of masking material. The method can include providing a masking material and applying the masking material to at least one major surface of the glazing panel. The glazing panel can be either a single glass pane or a multi-pane insulating glass unit. After application to at least one major surface, a laser can be used to describe a closed path on the major surface, thereby cutting or scoring the masking material through to the glass major surface. The path demarcates a central, masked region from a peripheral masked region of the glazing panel. In one method, the laser cuts a muntin bar pattern having several central regions. The laser power can be selected and/or adjusted such that the masking material is burned through, without damage to the underlying glass material and any coatings on the glass material. After cutting through the masking material to define the peripheral masked region, the peripheral masked region can be peeled or stripped off from the masked glazing panel. The remaining panel thus has a protective mask about the central region while leaving the peripheral region unprotected. The resultant masked glazing panel may be assembled into a window unit by mounting window frame members about the four sides of the glazing panel. The window frame members may thus have a tight and durable fit directly to the glass in the peripheral region, while the central region of the glazing panel remains protected by the masking material.

A method for designing a drill bit comprising modeling a domain between a drill bit and a surrounding wellbore. A region is defined within each of a plurality of flow paths through which fluid travels through the domain. An allocation of flow among the plurality of flow paths through the domain is determined and the drill bit is modified such that the allocation of flow is substantially uniform among the plurality of flow paths. A drill bit comprises a bit body having a plurality of blades projecting there from, wherein at least one blade has a greater length than at least one other blade. A plurality of nozzles, or ports, are disposed on the body and a plurality of junk slots are formed between adjacent blades so that the flow of fluid through each of the plurality of junk slots is substantially uniform.

An earth boring bit includes a bit body including plurality of PDC cutter elements and a fluid plenum connecting a fluid inlet to at least one fluid orifice. Furthermore, a ledge formed between a bottom of the fluid plenum and the at least one fluid orifice includes a relief region formed therein located across a flow change angle. Additionally, a method to improve a polycrystalline diamond compact drill bit body design includes determining flow change angles from a fluid plenum into a fluid orifice and modeling a relief region on a ledge to optimize fluid into the fluid orifice.

A rotary cone rock bit includes one or more hole cleaning nozzles and one or more bit cleaning nozzles. The hole cleaning nozzles of one drill bit define a projected fluid path disposed at a lateral angle of less than six degrees in order to achieve a large impingement pressure on the hole bottom. The bit cleaning nozzles of the same drill bit define a projected fluid path disposed at a lateral angle of at least six degrees in order to pass within 0.5 inches of the teeth on leading edge of the lagging roller cone. This results in a drill bit that both cleans the bottom hole and cleans cone inserts.
