摘要: A method for obtaining visual feedback for vowel quality is disclosed. By filtering and decomposing audio signals in formants, one or more software modules and/or applications may determine the type of phoneme in an audio signal that corresponds to a vowel. First and second formants may be measured in their frequencies; subsequently frequencies values of first formant and second formant may be assigned as X and Y coordinates, respectively. These (X,Y) coordinates may be used for graphing points and trajectories of the points in a Cartesian coordinate system while the user is pronouncing a vowel. Thus, graphic feedback for vowel pronunciation may be obtained.

摘要: A system and method for metered dosage illumination in a bioanalysis or other system includes an illumination system or subsystem that can provide optimized amounts of excitation light within the short exposure times necessary to measure fast biological activity. The amount of light can be precisely measured to provide quantitative results. The light flux can be precisely controlled to generate a prescribed minimum amount of light, in order to reduce adverse lighting effects on both fluors and samples. The system and method is particularly useful in any quality-control, analysis, or assessment-based environment. Typical research and development applications can include quality control, instrument calibration, and light output standardization; while clinical and diagnostics applications can include clinical monitoring, bioassay calibration and control for diagnostics, treatment and or therapeutic evaluation.

摘要: A system and method for metered dosage illumination in a bioanalysis or other system. In accordance with an embodiment, an illumination system or subsystem is described that can provide optimized amounts of excitation light within the short exposure times necessary to measure fast biological activity. The amount of light can be precisely measured to provide quantitative results. The light flux can also be precisely controlled to generate only a prescribed minimum amount of light, in order to reduce adverse lighting effects on both fluors and samples. Although the examples herein illustrate the providing of metered dosage illumination in the context of a bioanalysis system, the techniques can be similarly used to provide metered dosage illumination in the context of other types of system.

摘要: The invention relates to a method of operating a communication network, the network comprising a plurality of stations which are able to transmit data to and receive data from one another so that a message comprising a plurality of data packets is sent from an originating station to a destination station via at least one opportunistically selected intermediate station. The method makes use of probe signals transmitted from each station on a selected probing channel to which other stations respond to indicate their availability as destination or intermediate stations. A Request to Send message is sent, with a Clear to Send message returned by an available station. The station with data to send opportunistically selects an available station and the selected station uses a Packet Acknowledge message to confirm successful reception of the transmitted data packet. An End-to-End Acknowledge message is sent by the originating station, directly or indirectly, to confirm receipt of said data packets.

摘要: The invention provides a method of operating a communication network and a network itself. The network comprises a plurality of wireless stations, each station being able to transmit and receive data so that the network can transmit a message comprising a plurality of data packets from an originating station to a destination station via at least one intermediate station. At least some of the stations have a controllable antenna system operable to direct a null selectively. The method includes selecting, at each station, one or more probing channels for the transmission of probe signals to other stations. At stations having a controllable antenna system, the presence of interference on said one or more probing channels is detected, and one or more nulls are selectively directed towards the source or sources of the interference. Typically, a null is directed towards a source of interference where the level of the interference exceeds a predetermined level. Each station transmits neighbor gathering probe signals on the selected probing channel or channels, and other stations which receive the neighbor gathering probe signals from a probing station respond directly or indirectly to thereby indicate to the probing station their availability as destination or intermediate neighbor stations. The presence of the nulls affects the ability of other stations to receive the neighbor gathering probe signals, and the resulting variations in the connectivity between stations provides variations in the availability of neighbor stations to each station.

摘要: A focused droplet nebulizer of the invention produces substantially uniform droplets of a predetermined size. Droplets are pushed out through a small outlet orifice by the contraction of a chamber. The droplets can be carried on a substantially non-divergent path in a drift tube. A piezo membrane micro pump acts in response to an electrical control signal to force a droplet out of the outlet orifice. The nebulizer can operate at frequencies permitting a stream of individual droplets of the predetermined size to be sent along the substantially non-divergent path in the drift tube in a preferred embodiment ELSD device.

摘要: Field values such as payee names from downloaded transaction records are automatically renamed when appropriate, to make them consistent with corrected field values, such as actual payee names. If a downloaded field value corresponds to an alias for an corrected field value, the downloaded value is re-placed with the corrected field value. If a renaming rule applies to a downloaded field value, the downloaded field value is replaced according to the renaming rule. The invention automatically generates aliases and/or renaming rules when appropriate.

摘要: A high frequency electrical connector includes a number of input terminals and output terminals that are interconnected by three metallic lead frames mounted on a dielectric spring block. The lead frames comprise flat elongated conductors, each terminating in a spring contact at one end and an insulation displacement connector at the other end. The lead frames are mounted on top of each other and their conductors are generally parallel and close to each other. Selected conductors of the lead frames crossover each other when they are mounted on the spring block but are prevented from making contact with each other at the crossover point. One pair of adjacent conductors are spaced a first distance from each other up to the crossover point, and a second, greater distance from each other beyond the crossover point for a portion of their lengths. The conductors of the one pair cross each other at a second crossover point. The conductors of a second conductor pair are crossed over one of the conductors of a third conductor pair and are closely spaced at the crossover point.
