Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods and materials used to express an HBM-like polypeptide derived from HBM, LRP5 or LRP6 in animal cells and transgenic animals. The present invention also relates to transgenic animals expressing the HBM-like polypeptides. The invention provides nucleic acids, including coding sequences, oligonucleotide primers and probes, proteins, cloning vectors, expression vectors, transformed hosts, methods of developing pharmaceutical compositions, methods of identifying molecules involved in bone development, and methods of diagnosing and treating diseases involved in bone development and lipid modulation. In preferred embodiments, the present invention is directed to methods for treating, diagnosing and preventing osteoporosis.
Abstract:
A sanitary rupture disk apparatus includes a rupture disk member having a periphery and a stitched portion, preferably positioned next to the periphery. A hinge area that is unstitched is provided also at the periphery of the rupture disk member. A peripheral holder or support engages the periphery of the disk member, the peripheral support being comprised of a pair of backup rings and a flexible, preferably polymeric member. The polymeric member can be in the form of a two-part flexible sanitary gasket. A pair of annular flanges of the flexible gasket extend radially inwardly of the peripheral support, each of the flanges overlapping and sealing the stitched portion of the disk member, the flanges enabling a pressure loading of the disk member.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a method of producing an aqueous solution which comprises soluble benzene carboxylic acid salts which is substantially free of soluble humic acid salts. A first aqueous solution (22) which comprises soluble humic acid salts and soluble benzene carboxylic acid salts is reacted with carbon dioxide (32) and an inorganic chemical (34) selected from the group consisting of magnesium bicarbonate, magnesium carbonate, a double salt of magnesium carbonate, and mixtures thereof in a mixing zone (30) under conditions operable for converting the soluble humic acid salts to precipitated magnesium humic acid salts while maintaining the soluble benzene carboxylic acid salts in solution. The reacted first aqueous solution (36) is then separated in a separation zone (40) into (i) a second aqueous solution (44) which comprises the soluble benzene carboxylic acid salts and which is at least substantially free of soluble humic acid salts, and (ii) a mixture (42) which comprises precipitated magnesium humic acid salts.
Abstract:
The invention relates to methods, reagents and apparatus for detecting protein isoforms (e.g., those due to alternative splicing, or different disease protein isoforms or degradation products) in a sample, including using combinations of capture agents to identify the isoforms to be detected/measured.
Abstract:
An activated carbon/metal oxide filter element is disclosed. The filter element may be prepared by blending an activated carbon, a metal oxide, and a binder to form a filter media mixture, shaping the filter media mixture into a filter body. The filter body may be calcined to form a filter element. The activated carbon/metal oxide filter element may be used to remove odorous compounds, acidic gases, and volatile organic compounds from a gas.
Abstract:
A rupture panel for relieving an excess pressure differential between the interior and exterior of a vessel having a wall and an opening through the wall includes a first frame section connected to the vessel wall at the opening and a pair of pressure relief panels mounted to the frame, each panel having a stitched portion, the stitched portions providing opening capability on both vacuum and burst pressure control (or on either vacuum or burst pressure control). A pair of sealing members that sandwich the pair of pressure relief panels there between are provided, one of the sealing members engaging one of the pressure relief panels, the other sealing member engaging the other pressure relief panel. Each of the sealing members has a sealing surface that covers a stitched portion of an adjacent relief panel. A second frame section connects to the first frame section and connections are provided that join the first and second frame sections together, clamping the pressure relief panels and sealing members there between.
Abstract:
An improved method for reducing the halogen content of a particulate polyolefin formed by catalytic polymerization of an olefin in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst is taught which comprises the steps of causing the polyolefin in the dry state to flow into a gas phase fluidized bed, contacting the polyolefin in the fluidized bed with a gas comprising 0.05% to 0.2% alkylene oxide, 5% to 30% water, and the balance inert gas such that the alkylene oxide reacts with halogens present in the polyolefin to form an alkylene halohydrin, removing the alkylene halohydrin from the fluidized bed and thus reducing the halogen content of the polyolefin. The improvement comprises regenerating the alkylene oxide by contacting the inert gas containing alkylene halohydrin with a caustic solution in alcohol or water and recovering therefrom alkylene oxide formed by the reaction of the alkylene halohydrin and the caustic solution.
