Abstract:
A method for cleansing used reaction cuvettes so that whenever certain assays are to be or have been performed in the reaction cuvette, the cuvette is automatically subjected to an additional cleaning operation by providing a number of washing and drying manifolds, each of which is independently selectively activated to perform or not perform a cleaning operation.

Abstract:
A tunable optical fiber connector has a barrel assembly within a housing in which a tubular member has mounted thereon a nut in a light press fit. The tubular member has a ferrule extending from the front thereof and, in a preferred embodiment, notches in its end for use with a tuning wrench. The outer dimensions of the nut are chosen to minimize float between the nut and the cavity that contains the nut within the housing. The connector is first roughly turned by rotation of the nut and tubular member together, and then precisely tuned by rotation of the tubular member relative to the nut.
Abstract:
A method and system are disclosed for enhancing the visibility of features of an image. The method comprises the steps of acquiring image data corresponding to at least one image feature using sensing means; processing the image data to identify changes in adjacent data points corresponding to a boundary of the at least one image feature; and, generating modified image data corresponding to the processed image data.
Abstract:
A tool for connecting items to and from a split ring key holder. The tool includes a blade having a distal end opposite a proximal end with an intermediate portion therebetween. The distal end has a generally wedge shape with a narrow distal tip. The intermediate portion has first and second scalloped edges on opposite sides of the intermediate portion. The first and second scalloped edges define respective sequences of peaks and valleys opposed to one another. The narrow distal tip of the distal end of the blade and the first and second scalloped edges of the intermediate portion of the blade are adapted to separate and spread apart the split ring key holder. In the preferred embodiment, the blade is retractable and housed within a housing that provides for translation of the blade along a predetermined translation axis.

Abstract:
A liquid level sensor confirms actual physical contact between a probe and a liquid by verifying that any change in capacitance of the sensor is constant over a given time period and thereby is not caused by spurious electrical disturbances or other measuring irregularities.
