Abstract: A method is disclosed for controlling an engine assembly comprising an internal combustion engine and an exhaust gas treatment apparatus. The aftertreatment assembly may require cleaning from time to time, and where this involves active thermal management of the aftertreatment assembly, the method involves performing the following steps: (a) imposing a first limit on engine speed; (b) awaiting an engine safe state; and (c) implementing a cleaning process comprising: (i) injecting fuel into the engine such that the fuel passes through the engine without combusting for the fuel to combust in the diesel oxidation catalyst so as to target an increase in exhaust gas temperature in the diesel oxidation catalyst; and (ii) removing the first limit on engine speed and targeting an engine speed set point, wherein the engine speed set point is at a higher speed than the first limit on engine speed.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to a method of controlling an engine and more particularly for controlling the transition between operating modes of an internal combustion engine such as between an economy mode and a performance mode. The method comprising the steps of determining a current fuel-air ratio at which the engine is operating and comparing it with a predetermined fuel-air ratio limit. The time duration for which the current fuel air-ratio is below the fuel-air ratio limit is determined and compared with a predetermined waiting time threshold value. A count is triggered, which is based on a difference between the current fuel-air ratio and the fuel-air ratio limit when the engine is operating at a current fuel-air ratio which is below the fuel-air ratio limit and this is compared with an intensity threshold value. The operating mode is shifted from the performance mode to the economy mode when both the time duration and the count exceed the waiting time threshold value and the intensity threshold value respectively. The operating mode is automatically shifted back to the performance mode when the current fuel-air ratio reaches or exceeds the fuel ratio limit. The method alternatively comprises using the air-fuel ratio, instead of the fuel-air ratio, and the switch from performance mode to economy mode only occurs when the current air-fuel is above a predetermined air-fuel limit and it remains above the predetermined air-fuel limit until two other predetermined thresholds have been reached.

Abstract: A flowhood assembly 1 comprises an injector 30 which is fixable to a mount 50 in a number of alternative mounted positions defined by rotation of the injector about an injection axis X2 relative to the mount, The injector 30 includes one or more coolant ports 34, 35 which are connected in use to a supply of liquid coolant C. The mount 50 is fixable to a flowhood 10 in an upright, design orientation and in alternative connected positions defined by rotation of the flowhood 10 relative to the mount 50 about a connection axis X1. In a normal use position of the assembly the connection axis X1 of the flowhood is arranged at a predefined angle, optionally 0°, relative to a nominal horizontal plane P1. The injector 30 is not fixable to the mount 50 other than in the alternative mounted positions. In use in the normal use position, and in each of the alternative mounted positions of the injector, the injection axis X2 of the injector is oriented downwardly away from the injector relative to the horizontal plane P1, and at least one of the coolant ports 34, 35 is arranged above the horizontal plane P1 which passes through the injection axis X2 at an outlet end 32 of the nozzle.

Abstract: A turbocharger housing for an engine includes a specifically designed mounting interface provided at a turbine outlet of a turbine housing. Abstract: A control system is provided for thermal management of an aftertreatment device in an engine that is provided in an enclosure. The engine has a cooling fan that is operable in a first direction to cool said engine. The fan is also operable in a reverse direction opposite to the first direction. The control system includes a first temperature sensor that measures a temperature of the engine or the enclosure. The control system further includes a second temperature sensor that measures a temperature of the aftertreatment device. The control system also includes a processor that is coupled to the first and second temperature sensors. The processor is configured to issue control signals, based on whether regeneration is required by the aftertreatment device or not, for selectively controlling a direction of operation associated with the cooling fan.

Abstract: An SCR injection system for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. Under certain conditions, reductant fluid supplied by the system may form deposits in a reductant injector. In order to dissolve the deposits, a reductant supply line includes at least a portion with a downward slope that is disposed above a reductant inlet of the reductant injector. This allows reductant fluid in the sloped portion to flow to the reductant inlet due to gravity. Advantageously, a bent portion is provided between the reductant inlet and the sloped portion in order to trap reductant fluid that may flow back towards the reductant injector when the system is purged.
