Abstract: The invention relates to a method for automatically processing at least one image slice of a given part of at least one lung of a patient suffering from a pathology that causes a bronchial infection by diffuse dilatation of the bronchial tubes of the lungs, the method comprising steps of segmenting (102) the at least one image slice of the given part of the lung, in order to produce a histogram characterising the pulmonary density of the given part of the lunch, by means of the voxels of the at least one image slice, each voxel being assocaited with a given pulmonary density; calculating (104) a threshold, from the histogram, corresponding to a threshold pulmonary density, based on at least one characteristic of the histogram, a first characteristic being the mode of the histogram; determining (106) from the at least one image slice of the given part of the lung, a pulmonary volume having a pulmonnar density higher or lower than the calculatedd threshold, corresponding to the sum of the voxels having a pulmonary density higher or lower than the calculated threshold; and calculating (110) an automatic score on the basis of the determined pulmonary volume, in order to monitor the evolution of the broncial infection of the patient.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for determining an infiltration profile of biological cells of interest in a biological object of interest from a digital histopathological image of biological tissues, a histological stain having previously been applied to the biological tissues, comprising generating a biological cell detection image, pixels associated with the histological stain on the histopathological image being of a predetermined color on said image, determining a distance map comprising distance iso-curves to the boundary of the biological object, and, from the distance map, calculating a curve representative of the surface density of biological cells of interest as a function of distance to the boundary, by counting, for each boundary distance value, pixels that are both of the predetermined color on the detection image and located between the iso-curve associated with said distance value and the consecutive iso-curve.

Abstract: Today, despite current advances in combinatorial therapies such as surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, aggressive cancers remain fatal. Cancer stem-like cells (CSCs) may account for chemotherapy resistance and thus represent a promising therapeutic target. In this context, the present inventors identified essential intracellular pathways favoring the self-renewal and survival of CSCs. More precisely, the present inventors showed that the cytokine co-receptor GP130 acts as a co-receptor for Apelin/APJ signaling and that the interaction of Apelin with APJ/GP130 activates a dual signaling pathway involving the Akt/mTOR and STAT3 transcription factor, thereby promoting CSCs survival and self-renewal. They therefore propose to block these pathways in order to treat patients suffering from tumors containing CSCs, such as glioblastomas. In another aspect, the invention relates to the use of the Apelin expression level for evaluating the survival probability of a subject suffering from glioblastoma.
