Abstract: Fluid path assemblies for drug delivery devices and methods of establishing a fluid flow path for drug delivery devices are described that include a needle shield valve member that couples to a reservoir having a needle mounted thereto. The needle shield valve member includes an internal barrier that protects the needle and/or contains a drug within the reservoir until activation of the drug delivery device. Upon activation, there is relative movement between the reservoir and needle shield valve member until the needle pierces the barrier to establish a fluid flow path from the reservoir through the needle shield valve member.

Abstract: A syringe is described with a plunger assembly that is adapted to have a dispensing stroke sized to dispense a fluid therapeutic product from the syringe without dispensing any air or headspace. The syringe includes a plunger rod having a stop feature that stops a dispensing stroke of the plunger rod at a distance corresponding to a level of air or headspace within the syringe avoiding additional air dispensing steps from a healthcare provider.

The container contains a medicament which is urged out of the container by the drive mechanism. The needle assembly has a needle and/or a cannula to deliver the medicament from the container. The fluid flow path fluidically connects the container and the needle assembly. The vortex flow adapter is disposed within or defines at least a portion of the fluid flow path, and is adapted to urge the medicament to flow in a vortex pattern.

Abstract: A drug delivery device includes a housing, a container disposed in the housing, an activation mechanism, a needle insertion mechanism, a fluid flow connection, and a valve in fluid communication with the fluid flow connection and the needle insertion mechanism. The container has an inner volume to contain a medicament which is urged out of the container by the activation mechanism. The needle insertion mechanism is adapted to insert a needle and/or a cannula to deliver the medicament from the container via the fluid flow connection. The valve is in fluid communication with the fluid flow connection and needle insertion mechanism, and is movable between first and second positions. Upon insertion of the needle and/or the cannula, the valve remains in the first position whereby fluid flow is restricted. At a later time, the valve is urged to the second position whereby fluid may flow through the needle or cannula.

Abstract: A drug delivery system includes a delivery container including a container body adapted to accommodate a drug therein, a supply line, and a flow rate monitor. The delivery container further includes inlet and outlet ports and is constructed from a resilient material that exerts an urging force on the drug to expel the drug from the outlet port. The supply line is operably coupled to the outlet port to deliver the drug to a user. The flow rate monitor is operably coupled to at least one of the delivery container or the supply line and includes a digital controller, a fluid valve operably coupled to the digital controller, and a diaphragm assembly in fluid communication with the fluid valve and operably coupled to the digital controller. The fluid valve, the diaphragm assembly, and the digital controller cooperate to regulate a flow rate of the drug.
