Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for random access in a wireless communication system are disclosed herein. In one method, a user equipment (UE) performs a first attempt of a random access procedure to communicate with a cell via at least a first UE beam. The UE performs a second attempt of the random access procedure to communicate with the cell via at least a second UE beam when the first attempt fails, in which the direction of the first UE beam and the direction of the second UE beam are different.

In one embodiment, the method includes the UE performing measurement to obtain a measurement result associated with a cell. The method also includes the UE determining whether to use the UE beamforming in the cell at least based on the measurement result, wherein the UE uses the UE beamforming in the cell if the measurement result is worse than a first threshold.

The method also includes the UE receiving a beam indication by a MAC control element via the PCell, wherein the beam indication includes a cell index and the beam indication is used to derive at least one beam to be used in the SCell. In addition, the method includes the UE using the at least one beam for a DL (Downlink) transmission or an UL (Uplink) transmission in the SCell.

In one embodiment, the method includes receiving a Random Access Channel (RACH) configuration from a network node, wherein the RACH configuration indicates at least one Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) resource for beam failure recovery. The method further includes receiving a timing advance command from the network node, and starting or restarting a time alignment timer when receiving the timing advance command. The method also includes releasing the at least one PRACH resource for the beam failure recovery indicated by the RACH configuration when the timing alignment timer expires.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for transmitting data duplication in a wireless communication system are disclosed herein. In one method for a user equipment (UE) configured with data duplication. The UE duplicates a data unit into a first data unit and a second data unit. The UE constructs a second Radio Link Control (RLC) Packet Data Unit (PDU) used for transmitting the second data unit. The second data unit is a second RLC Service Data Unit (SDU). The UE receives a control command from a network node. The control command is used to deactivate the data duplication. The UE discards the second RLC PDU if the second RLC PDU includes the second RLC SDU.
