Abstract:
A filter media includes a media pack having a central opening that extends between opposing ends of the media pack. A support member, such as a center tube, extends through the central opening and supports one of the opposing ends. A second support member, such as a filter cartridge assembly guide, is secured to the second support member and supports the other of the opposing ends. In one example, the center tube includes a seat that extends radially outwardly from an axially body of the center tube to support the media pack. The first and second support members are secured by an interlocking connection of any suitable configuration. The disclosed arrangement can be used to reduce the number of components required for providing a large number of filter cartridge assembly. Each of a plurality of media packs provide different heights. A first support member is selected to support one of the opposing ends. A second support member is selected to accommodate the height of the selected media pack. The first and second support members cooperate with one another to support the opposing ends of the media pack.
Abstract:
A filter includes a housing providing an interior. The housing includes an outlet and an inlet arranged radially outwardly from the outlet. A filter element assembly is arranged within the interior and includes a filter media for filtering fluid within the filter. A turbine includes fins arranged axially beneath the inlet within the interior for centrifugally separating debris from the fluid. The turbine is provided by an integrated end disc, end cap and fins, in one example, molded from plastic. Another end disc or end cap is arranged opposite of the turbine and supports another end of the filter media. The end cap includes a circumferential wall that extends outwardly adjacent to the housing. Recesses are provided in the circumferential wall to permit fluid communication between an inlet side of the filter element assembly and a cavity arranged between the end cap and a bottom of the housing. The heavy debris passes through the recesses and collects in the cavity as the debris is centrifugally separated from the fluid.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to methods for carbon dioxide from air, which comprises exposing solvent covered surfaces to air streams where the airflow is kept laminar, or close to the laminar regime. The invention also provides for an apparatus, which is a laminar scrubber, comprising solvent covered surfaces situated such that they can be exposed to air streams such that the airflow is kept laminar.
Abstract:
A separate filter cartridge and latch release are used to replace a used filter cartridge in a filter assembly having a latch. In one example, the filter cartridge includes opposing end caps that are substantially the same as one another. The end caps have central holes. The filter cartridge is inserted into a filter assembly housing in which the latch prevents a cover from being installed onto a filter assembly housing until the latch is deactivated. The latch release is arranged relative to the filter cartridge to cooperate with the latch to enable the cover to be reattached to the filter assembly housing. The latch release includes tabs that align with features of the latch and extend through the central holes to cooperate with the latch. The latch release is removably secured to the cover and the filter cartridge.
Abstract:
A filter manufacturing process includes the steps of dispensing an adhesive including an RF receptive material, and arranging the adhesive between an end disc and a filter media. The adhesive is exposed to RF waves excite the RF receptive material, which generates heat to cure the adhesive. The adhesive need only be exposed to the RF waves for several seconds. As a result, the filter media may be fully cured during the early processing stages. In one example, the adhesive is a vinyl adhesive plastisol. The filter media and end disc are passed through a curing tunnel in which an RF transmitter is arranged proximate to the adhesive to emit RF waves to excite the RF receptive material.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention a method for producing a composite paper by providing a particulate sorbent, providing a paper pulp, and mixing the particulate sorbent and the paper pulp to develop a mixture. The method includes producing an article from the mixture that includes the particulate sorbent at least partially distributed through at least a portion of the article. Further, the at least one article is configured and arranged to uptake and release carbon dioxide as a function of moisture content. Some embodiments of the invention include a composite paper-like assembly including at least a first and second layer including hydrophobic fibers, and sorbent particles and/or a sorbent loaded paper sandwiched between the first and second porous sheets. Some further embodiments include a method for producing a material that supports a moisture swing by providing a material including activated carbon, and infusing the activated carbon with ionic salt.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for capturing carbon dioxide from dilute sources are disclosed. In some embodiments, the methods include the following: (a) directing a first substantially gaseous stream including a first amount of carbon dioxide to a primary scrubber; (b) in the primary scrubber, removing a portion of the first amount of carbon dioxide thereby forming a second substantially gaseous stream including a second amount of carbon dioxide; (c) directing the second substantially gaseous stream to a secondary scrubber; (d) in the secondary scrubber, removing a portion of the second amount of carbon dioxide thereby forming a third substantially gaseous stream; (e) mixing substantially all of the portion of the second amount of carbon dioxide removed in step (d) with the first substantially gaseous stream before it enters the primary scrubber; and (f) repeating steps (a) thru (e).
Abstract:
A filter is provided having a housing that includes a cavity. A center tube includes first and second ends spaced from one another. A seat extends radially from the center tube and is arranged between the first and second ends. A media pack is arranged within the cavity and supported on the seat such that the center tube extends through a central opening of the media pack. An anti-drainback valve is supported on the seat and is in sealing engagement with the center tube and the media pack. The housing includes a tapping plate that provides an inlet and outlet. An annular lip of the anti-drainback valve is in sealing engagement with the tapping plate when in a closed position in which the engine is shut off.
Abstract:
A filter includes a housing having a cavity. A media pack, which includes a filter media, is arranged within the cavity and includes a central opening extending between opposing ends of the media pack. A center tube is arranged within the central opening and extends out of the central opening beyond one of the ends to provide a first end. A relief valve is supported on the first end. The filter cartridge assembly is installed into the housing with the relief valve in sealing engagement with a tapping plate of the housing. The relief valve performs the function of a seal between the filter cartridge assembly and the tapping plate in addition to performing pressure relief functions.
Abstract:
A cooling system is provided that includes a cap secured to a degas bottle. A filter that includes a frangible area is arranged within the degas bottle near the cap to separate the degas bottle into first and second sides. The frangible area is breakable in response to a predetermined pressure differential to provide an opening in the filter and connect the first and second sides. The filter includes a housing that supports mesh which filters debris and prevents the debris from reaching a valve in the cap. The opening in the broken frangible area bypasses the mesh in the event the mesh becomes clogged with debris. In operation, the inventive filter provides a simple method of releasing pressure in the cooling system. A wall of the filter is fractured once the differential pressure reaches the predetermined differential pressure. The inexpensive filter can then be replaced.
