Abstract:
A filter media includes a media pack having a central opening that extends between opposing ends of the media pack. A support member, such as a center tube, extends through the central opening and supports one of the opposing ends. A second support member, such as a filter cartridge assembly guide, is secured to the second support member and supports the other of the opposing ends. In one example, the center tube includes a seat that extends radially outwardly from an axially body of the center tube to support the media pack. The first and second support members are secured by an interlocking connection of any suitable configuration. The disclosed arrangement can be used to reduce the number of components required for providing a large number of filter cartridge assembly. Each of a plurality of media packs provide different heights. A first support member is selected to support one of the opposing ends. A second support member is selected to accommodate the height of the selected media pack. The first and second support members cooperate with one another to support the opposing ends of the media pack.
Abstract:
A filter is provided having a housing that includes a cavity. A center tube includes first and second ends spaced from one another. A seat extends radially from the center tube and is arranged between the first and second ends. A media pack is arranged within the cavity and supported on the seat such that the center tube extends through a central opening of the media pack. An anti-drainback valve is supported on the seat and is in sealing engagement with the center tube and the media pack. The housing includes a tapping plate that provides an inlet and outlet. An annular lip of the anti-drainback valve is in sealing engagement with the tapping plate when in a closed position in which the engine is shut off.
Abstract:
A filter includes a housing having a cavity. A media pack, which includes a filter media, is arranged within the cavity and includes a central opening extending between opposing ends of the media pack. A center tube is arranged within the central opening and extends out of the central opening beyond one of the ends to provide a first end. A relief valve is supported on the first end. The filter cartridge assembly is installed into the housing with the relief valve in sealing engagement with a tapping plate of the housing. The relief valve performs the function of a seal between the filter cartridge assembly and the tapping plate in addition to performing pressure relief functions.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for capturing carbon dioxide from dilute sources are disclosed. In some embodiments, the methods include the following: (a) directing a first substantially gaseous stream including a first amount of carbon dioxide to a primary scrubber; (b) in the primary scrubber, removing a portion of the first amount of carbon dioxide thereby forming a second substantially gaseous stream including a second amount of carbon dioxide; (c) directing the second substantially gaseous stream to a secondary scrubber; (d) in the secondary scrubber, removing a portion of the second amount of carbon dioxide thereby forming a third substantially gaseous stream; (e) mixing substantially all of the portion of the second amount of carbon dioxide removed in step (d) with the first substantially gaseous stream before it enters the primary scrubber; and (f) repeating steps (a) thru (e).
Abstract:
A filter cartridge includes a filter media having opposed edges. Annular end discs include first and second surfaces defined by spaced apart planes. The end discs has an integrated gasket, and is formal from includes first and second plastisol materials that have different durometers. The durometer of the second plastisol material makes it more rigid than the first plastisol material. The first plastisol material provides a flexible gasket. During manufacture, each edge of the filter media is embedded into the second material on an end disc. The second plastisol material is arranged between the planes, and the first plastisol material extends axially away from the second surface.
Abstract:
A filter for a fluid system includes a housing having an interior cavity. A filter media is disposed in the housing and defines a central opening. A center tube assembly is arranged within the central opening and includes discs which are stackable upon one another. Each disc includes a central portion having base received by an inner wall of the central portion of the adjacent disc. An outer portion extends radially outwardly from the central portion and is positioned adjacent to the filter media. The central portion, base, and outer portion may include openings to permit the flow of fluid through the center tube assembly. The center tube assembly provides the desired structural integrity while permitting fluid to flow through the center tube. The present invention center tube assembly may be produced by a plastic molding process.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods for recovering a hydroxide based sorbent from carbonate or another salt by electrochemical means involving separation schemes that use bipolar membranes and at least one type of cationic or anionic membrane. The methods can be used in an air contactor that removes carbon dioxide from the air by binding the carbon dioxide into a solvent or sorbent.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to methods for carbon dioxide from air, which comprises exposing solvent covered surfaces to air streams where the airflow is kept laminar, or close to the laminar regime. The invention also provides for an apparatus, which is a laminar scrubber, comprising solvent covered surfaces situated such that they can be exposed to air streams such that the airflow is kept laminar.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for extracting CO2 from air comprising an anion exchange material formed in a matrix exposed to a flow of the air, and for delivering that extracted CO2 to controlled environments. The present invention contemplates the extraction of CO2 from air using conventional extraction methods or by using one of the extraction methods disclosed; e.g., humidity swing or electro dialysis. The present invention also provides delivery of the CO2 to greenhouses where increased levels of CO2 will improve conditions for growth. Alternatively, the CO2 is fed to an algae culture.
