    摘要: A method and apparatus for receiving a signal from transmitters such as GPS satellites, for fixing the location of the receiver. Each of the transmitted signals includes a unique periodically-repeating sequence. A received signal is stored by the receiver for at least two repetitions of the periodically-repeating sequence. FFT operations are performed, and the resulting data frequency samples are pruned responsive to a hypothesized residual frequency, a procedure which significantly reduces the total number of subsequent calculations and therefore significantly reduces processing time. A correlation series is determined from the pruned samples and reference frequency samples corresponding to a hypothesized transmitter. If a match is found in the examination of this series, a code phase offset is determined; if not the process is repeated with another hypothesized residual frequency. Multiple correlation series similarly obtained may also be incoherently combined prior to this examination. The apparatus and method disclosed herein is particularly useful for combined position location and communication systems, especially those that are unsynchronized, such as assisted GPS (“A-GPS”) utilized on GSM and UMTS cellular telephone systems.

    摘要: Methods and apparatuses for determining a position of a mobile satellite positioning system (SPS) receiver which is coupled to a communication receiver or transceiver. In one exemplary method, a change in a communication signal received by the communication receiver is determined. A parameter, based on the change, is determined, and SPS signals from SPS satellites are processed according to the parameter. According to further details of this method, the change involves the fluctuation of the level of the communication signal and the parameter is a motion information which specifies a frequency range for searching for SPS signals in the process of acquiring the SPS signals from SPS satellites. In an alternative embodiment the change in the communication signal is a change in the transmitted signal in response to power control commands. Apparatuses, such as a mobile communication system which includes an SPS receiver and a communication receiver, are also described.

    摘要: A hybrid fiber/coax digital data transmission system in which data from a plurality of subscribers are transmitted upstream to a headend demodulator in a series of data bursts. The headend demodulator acquires and synchronizes a data burst by detecting a BPSK preamble having a repetitive one and zero pattern (10101010101000). The pattern is detected by integrating clock energy in an envelope of a preamble length transmission and using the last three symbols (0,0,0) as a frame marker after differential decoding. Noise in the system is periodically measured by detecting an empty burst placed periodically in the data stream. A first-in, first-out (FIFO) memory allows closer spacing for the data bursts by permitting asynchronous received and output clocks.

    摘要: A global positioning system (GPS) receiver has first circuitry for receiving and processing pseudorandom sequences transmitted by a number of GPS satellites. The first circuitry is configured to perform conventional correlation operations on the received pseudorandom sequences to determine pseudoranges from the GPS receiver to the GPS satellites. The GPS receiver also includes second circuitry coupled to the first circuitry. The second circuitry is configured to receive and process the pseudorandom sequences during blockage conditions. The second circuitry processes the pseudorandom sequences by digitizing and storing a predetermined record length of the received sequences and then performing fast convolution operations on the stored data to determine the pseudoranges. The GPS receiver may have a common circuitry for receiving GPS signals from in view satellites and downconverting the RF frequency of the received GPS signals to an intermediate frequency (IF). The IF signals are split into two signal paths; a first of which provides the conventional correlation processing to calculate the pseudoranges. During blockage conditions, the IF signal is passed to the second signal path wherein the IF signals are digitized and stored in memory and later processed using the fast convolution operations to provide the pseudoranges. Alterative arrangements for the two signal paths include separate downconverting or shared digitizers. One embodiment provides both signal paths on a single integrated circuit with shared circuitry executing computer readable instructions to perform GPS signal processing appropriate to the reception conditions.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for measuring time related to satellite data messages which are used with satellite positioning systems (SPS). In one method, a first record of at least a portion of a satellite data message is received at an entity, which is typically a basestation. The first record is compared with a second record of the satellite data message, where the first record and the second record overlap at least partially in time. Then a time is determined from this comparison, and this time indicates when the first record (or the source from which the first record was obtained) was received at a remote entity which is typically a mobile SPS receiver. Various other methods of the invention are described and various apparatuses of the invention are also described. The methods and apparatuses measure time of day using SPS signals without reading the satellite data messages which are transmitted as data within these signals. The methods and apparatuses are suitable for situations in which the received signal level is too weak to allow reading of the satellite data messages.

    摘要: A method and apparatus is disclosed for reducing cross-interference between received satellite signals in a satellite positioning system receiver. A satellite positioning receiver receives satellite signals from a plurality of satellites. Spurious signals when processing a weak received satellite signal due to interference by a stronger received signal are reduced by estimating certain characteristics of the stronger signal, creating an interference waveform based on these estimated characteristics, and subtracting this interference waveform from a set of correlation outputs for the weaker signal to remove the interference effects of the stronger signal. Alternatively, a subset of these correlation outputs are ignored where the interference waveform produces strong spurious signals.
