Abstract: Detection of a blocked microphone involves receiving microphone signals from a plurality of microphones. A plurality of signal feature measures are derived from the microphone signals. The signal feature measures are normalised. The normalised signal feature measures are variably weighted in response to detected environmental conditions in the microphone signals. The variably weighted normalised signal feature measures are combined to produce an output indication of whether a microphone is blocked.

Abstract: A crosstalk canceller for reducing acoustic crosstalk at a time of audio playback is derived by forming a channel frequency response for a nominated playback geometry, and decomposing the channel frequency response to derive a decomposition element such as a singular value decomposition matrix. A value of the decomposition element, such as the smallest singular value, is then adjusted to reduce spectral coloration, and filter coefficients of a crosstalk cancellation filter are derived from the adjusted decomposition element.

Abstract: Described embodiments relate to a method operable in a biometric authentication system. The method comprises initiating generation of an acoustic stimulus for application to a user's ear; and determining a quality measure of a response signal to the acoustic stimulus. Responsive to determining that the quality measure is inadequate for performing a biometric process, the method comprises one or more of: (i) modifying one or more properties of the acoustic stimulus to improve a signal to noise ratio, SNR, of the response signal and (ii) cancelling the effect of noise from outside the ear on the response signal of the user's ear to the acoustic stimulus to improve the SNR of the response signal.

Microphone signals from a plurality of microphones are used to derive a plurality of signal feature measures, which are normalized to a common reference scale. The signal feature measures are weighted based upon detected signal conditions in the microphone signals. The normalized and variably weighted signal feature measures are then combined to produce an output indication of whether a headset is on ear.

Abstract: This application relates to transfer of microphone data from a microphone (101, 102, 102a, 201) to a processing module, such as voice biometric authentication module (111) in a secure manner, such that the receiving module can trust that the received audio is genuine. An authentication module (203) is configured to receive microphone data (DM) representative of an audio signal received at the microphone (201), and generate from the microphone data, authentication data (DA) for certifying that the microphone data did pass via the authentication module. The first authentication data (DA) comprises information relating to distinguishing characteristics of the audio content of the microphone data and may, for instance be an acoustic fingerprint of the audio content. The authentication data, may be cryptographically signed or encrypted and sent with the microphone audio to allow a receiver to verify that the audio is genuine and the content has not been substantially altered. The process may be robust to processing of the data that results in imperceptible changes in the audio content.

Abstract: An acoustic crosstalk canceller is determined for an asymmetric audio playback device, by determining a transfer function of an acoustic stereo playback path having asymmetries defined by speakers of the playback device. The transfer function is inverted to determine an inverse transfer function. The inverse transfer function is regularised by applying frequency dependent regularisation parameters to obtain an acoustic crosstalk canceller. Also, the inverse transfer function could be regularised for symmetric playback paths by applying aggregated frequency dependent regularisation parameters to obtain an acoustic crosstalk canceller without band branching.
