Abstract: Distributed antenna systems over general use network infrastructures are provided. In one embodiment, a distributed antenna system comprises: a central area node (CAN) coupled to a backbone network, wherein the CAN is configured to communicatively couple to at least one base station via the network, and to communicatively couple to at least one wireless access point via the network. The distributed antenna system is configured to use virtual cables implemented using the network, each of the virtual cables defined by a respective dedicated data channel on the network. The CAN is coupled to the base station and wireless access point using at least some of the virtual cables. Downlink and uplink transport signals are transported between the CAN and the wireless access point through said virtual cables. The downlink transport signals are generated from base station downlink signals and base station uplink signals are generated from the uplink transport signals.

Abstract: In one embodiment, an over-the-air millimeter wave repeater for a communications network comprises: a donor unit including a first plurality of modular electronic components and an access point including a second plurality of modular electronic components. The donor unit communicates downlink mmWave spectrum wireless signals received from a base station to the access point and radiates uplink mmWave spectrum wireless signals received from the access point to the base station. The access point radiates the downlink mmWave spectrum wireless signals received from the donor unit into a coverage area, receives the uplink mmWave spectrum wireless signals received from the coverage area, and communicates the uplink mmWave spectrum wireless signals to the donor unit. The first and second plurality of modular electronic components includes at least one of a modular antenna component, a modular signal conditioning component, a modular signal interface component, and a modular controller.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a distributed antenna system (DAS) comprises: a master unit having downlink DAS circuitry configured to receive a base station downlink RF signal, and uplink DAS circuitry configured to transmit a base station uplink RF signal; and a plurality of remote antenna units coupled to the master unit, each configured to radiate a remote downlink RF signal from at least one antenna and to receive a remote uplink RF signal from the at least one antenna. A first remote antenna unit includes a secure DAS maintenance channel interface that includes a DAS maintenance access point. The secure DAS maintenance channel interface is communicatively coupled to a DAS maintenance channel of the DAS and communicates with a proximity detector configured to obtain a user equipment identification code from a user equipment; wherein a discoverability of the DAS maintenance access point is enabled based on the user equipment identification code.
