Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to a pumping element of a fuel pump for an internal combustion engine wherein the pumping element comprises a first flow chamber; a second flow chamber in fluid connection with the first flow chamber, the second flow chamber including a shoulder; a check valve including a first insert and a second insert, the first insert being movable between a first position wherein the first insert forms a seal that inhibits fluid flow between the first and second flow chambers and a second position wherein the first insert permits fluid flow between the first and second flow chambers, the second insert being inserted into the second flow chamber to an extent limited by the shoulder; and a spring having a first end engaging the first insert and a second end engaging the second insert; wherein the first insert moves from the first position to the second position against a biasing force of the spring in response to pressurized fluid in the first flow chamber.

Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to a pumping element of a fuel pump for an internal combustion engine wherein the pumping element comprises a pumping chamber and a check valve assembly having a first insert including a passage in flow communication with a fuel outlet, and a second insert being disposed adjacent the pumping chamber, the second insert including a bore in flow communication with a fuel inlet, a plurality of through holes in flow communication with the pumping chamber, and an inlet check valve plunger disposed in the bore for movement between an opened position wherein inlet fuel from the fuel inlet flows past the inlet check valve plunger through the plurality of through holes to the pumping chamber and a closed position wherein outlet fuel from the pumping chamber flows through the plurality of through holes past the inlet check valve plunger to the passage of the first insert.

Abstract: A high-pressure fuel pump for an internal combustion engine. The high-pressure fuel pump includes an improved configuration that beneficially simplifies certain features of the high-pressure fuel pump. The fuel pump possesses an inlet check valve positioned along an inlet fuel circuit and an outlet fuel circuit of the high-pressure pump that provides a path for a low-pressure inlet fuel flow to and a path for a high-pressure output fuel flow from a pumping chamber of the fuel pump. Because of the configuration of the inlet check valve and the outlet check valve, the complexity of high-pressure fuel pump is beneficially reduced, decreasing the cost of components and assembly and improving the life and reliability of high-pressure fuel pump.

Abstract: A fuel pump for an internal combustion engine is provided comprising a barrel including a central bore having a longitudinal axis, a plunger disposed partially in the central bore and movable along the longitudinal axis, a spring retainer, a first coil spring having a proximal end in contact with a first section of the barrel and a distal end in contact with the spring retainer to urge the spring retainer into engagement with a tappet assembly, an extender element coupled to the plunger, and a second coil spring having a proximal end in contact with a second section of the barrel and a distal end in contact with the extender element to urge the plunger toward the spring retainer, wherein the extender element includes a counter-bore to couple the extender element to the plunger.
