Abstract: An injector is provided, comprising an injector body comprising an inlet passage configured to receive fluid, at least one injection outlet configured to deliver fluid, and a central bore, a needle valve disposed for reciprocal movement within the central bore between a closed position and an opened position; and an actuator configured to move the needle valve between the closed position wherein a first portion of a surface of the valve tip engages a first portion of a surface of the injector body to form a first seal that inhibits flow through the at least one injection outlet, and the opened position wherein a second portion of the surface of the valve tip engages a second portion of the surface of the injector body to form a second seal that inhibits flow through the drain outlet.

Abstract: A system for preventing rotation of a tappet includes a tappet having an outer casing and a central axis which is configured to reciprocate linearly along the central axis. The outer casing includes a flat portion having a length along the central axis and having a width. Additionally, the system includes a lock bar fixed in position relative to the linear oscillation of the outer casing. The lock bar is positioned in proximity to the flat portion of the outer casing. Upon rotation of the outer casing about the central axis, the lock bar is configured to come into contact with the cuter casing and inhibit additional rotation of the outer casing.

Abstract: A high-pressure fuel pump for an internal combustion engine. The high-pressure fuel pump includes an improved configuration that beneficially simplifies certain features of the high-pressure fuel pump. The fuel pump possesses an inlet check valve positioned along an inlet fuel circuit and an outlet fuel circuit of the high-pressure pump that provides a path for a low-pressure inlet fuel flow to and a path for a high-pressure output fuel flow from a pumping chamber of the fuel pump. Because of the configuration of the inlet check valve and the outlet check valve, the complexity of high-pressure fuel pump is beneficially reduced, decreasing the cost of components and assembly and improving the life and reliability of high-pressure fuel pump.

Abstract: A fuel pump for an internal combustion engine is provided comprising a barrel including a central bore having a longitudinal axis, a plunger disposed partially in the central bore and movable along the longitudinal axis, a spring retainer, a first coil spring having a proximal end in contact with a first section of the barrel and a distal end in contact with the spring retainer to urge the spring retainer into engagement with a tappet assembly, an extender element coupled to the plunger, and a second coil spring having a proximal end in contact with a second section of the barrel and a distal end in contact with the extender element to urge the plunger toward the spring retainer, wherein the extender element includes a counter-bore to couple the extender element to the plunger.

Abstract: A fuel pump is disclosed wherein a substantially cylindrical plunger bore is provided with an annular drain groove fluidically coupled to a drain duct. A pump plunger is driven by a drive system located in a separate mechanical compartment that holds a reservoir of lubricating oil. An annular seal is provided adjacent the drain groove substantially at the end of the bore and retained in position by a seal support. Exemplary embodiments provide the drain groove and seal as being positioned immediately adjacent one another so that the seal forms a lower wall of the drain groove.
