摘要: Systems and methods are provided for automatically forming an incision in a tympanic membrane of an ear and placing a tympanic membrane pressure equalization tube into the incision. The systems include a housing with a shaft extending therefrom. A mechanism is disposed within the housing. A distal end of the shaft is placed against a tympanic membrane, and the mechanism is triggered to causes the tympanic membrane to be automatically incised and dilated and a tympanic membrane pressure equalization tube to be placed in the dilated incision.

摘要: Suture locking devices and methods. In one embodiment, the device includes a suture lock, a rotatable actuator adjacent to the lock, and a release mechanism. The lock defines a pair of suture holes which receive sutures attached to tissue (e.g. a spinal disc) of the surgical site. When the actuator rotates the sutures are wound together (preferably around a hub on the lock) thereby securing the plate to the tissue. Furthermore, the release mechanism is coupled to the lock in such a manner that when the release mechanism is actuated the device releases the lock. The release mechanism may include a push button that is biased away from the lock. Also, the actuator may include a thumbwheel and a gear. Further, the gear may also define suture holes. Additionally, a pull ring connected to a pair of loops for drawing the sutures through the instrument may be included.

摘要: A suburethral implant for treating stress urinary incontinence (SUI) includes an elongated plate-like member which is slightly curved in transverse cross-section, and a pair of spaced apart arms having hooked ends or barbs which extend from the plate-like member. A device for deploying the suburethral implant for treating SUI includes a vaginal probe for insertion in the vaginal canal of a patient, and a urethra locator probe for the simultaneous insertion in the urethra of a patient. The urethra probe is spaced apart from and overlies the vaginal probe. The vaginal probe includes a wall in which is formed an exit port. A suburethral implant introducer assembly is extendable and retractable through the exit port on the vaginal probe. The introducer assembly has a distal end on which is removably mounted a suburethral implant. The introducer assembly is extendable through the exit port to pierce the vaginal canal wall of the patient in order to position the suburethral implant in proximity to the patient's urethra. The hooked ends or barbs on the arms of the suburethral implant engage the tissue surrounding the patient's urethra and are affixed thereto during deployment of the implant. The introducer assembly is then retracted into the vaginal probe, whereby the implant is released from the introducer assembly and remains affixed to tissue in proximity to the patient's urethra.

摘要: A sealing engagement between components in a catheter system is made using an elastomeric material. The sealing engagement is formed in a manner that allows a catheter needle to pass through a passageway in the center of the elastomeric material maintaining the sealing engagement between the components of the catheter system. The elastomeric material is shaped to fit circumferentially into one of the components and shaped to mechanically assist the passageway to close up after a needle passes through the passageway during retraction. The elastomeric material remains in a stationary position as the needle is retracted. One or more structures can be integrated within the elastomeric material to provide for compression and to prevent deformation of the passageway.

摘要: Described herein are pullwire handle devices for securing to a tissue-penetrating pullwire. In some embodiments, the device includes a handle body, a pullwire lock configured to removably lock the pullwire handle device onto a pullwire within the handle body, and a tip containment element configured to retain the distal tip of the pullwire. In some embodiments, the handle body further comprises a storage chamber configured to store a distal portion of the pullwire. Also described herein are methods for capturing a pullwire using a pullwire handle device. In some embodiments, the method includes the steps of inserting the distal end of a pullwire into the pullwire handle device, advancing the pullwire further into the pullwire handle device while the distal portion of the pullwire is contained within the pullwire handle device, and locking the distal portion of the pullwire within the pullwire handle device.

摘要: An applicator for deploying a fastener having two legs into tissue. The applicator has two elongated hollow needle members, slotted portions at the distal ends of the hollow needle members for releasably retaining the legs of the fastener, two push rods adapted to move lengthwise in the two needle members, and an actuator for moving the two push rods in the needle members so as to eject the leg portions of the fastener from the slotted portion of the two needle members. A method for deploying the fastener in tissue is also disclosed.

摘要: In accordance with the present invention there is provided a method for suturing tissue using a needle holder device, The device includes a handle for holding it, the handle has distal and proximal ends. The device also has right and left arms extending distally from the handle. The arms of the device have proximal ends attached to the handle and distal ends having grippers attached thereto for gripping and releasing a needle. The device includes at least one mechanism for moving the distal ends of the arms closely adjacent to one another and for passing the needle from one gripper to the other and thereafter for moving the distal ends of the arms further apart from one another. The right gripper is holding a needle having a suture attached thereto. The method first involves moving the distal ends of the arms apart from one another and manually inserting the needle into the tissue and back out again. Thereafter, the method involves actuating the mechanism so as to move the arms closely adjacent one another so that the left gripper holds the needle, the right gripper releases the needle. Then the method involves moving the distal ends of the arms further apart from one another. Lastly, the method involves removing the needle from the tissue.
