Abstract: A fuel-air mixture regulator for multiple cylinder four-cycle internal combustion engines is positioned between the carburetor and the intake manifold whereby the fuel and air mixture flowing from the carburetor passes through the fuel-air mixture regulator and undergoes an increase in velocity and turbulence enroute to the cylinders for better combustion. The mixture regulator includes a housing having a plurality ports. A thin, resilient, flexible reed for each port is adapted to seat thereover when the engine is not operating and moves away from the port to variably open same for flow of fuel-air mixture therethrough in response to pressure differentials on the reeds during engine operation. The size of the port opening is reduced at lower engine speeds and assures optimum fuel-air mixing and high velocity air flow even at such lower speed.

Abstract: A grass cutting machine has two forward cutting units (24) and one rear central unit (46). Abstract: A method of producing a clad sheet article having superplastic properties, and the resulting clad sheet article. The method involves producing a cladding layer onto at least one rolling face of a core ingot made of a metal having superplastic properties, preferably by co-casting, to form a clad ingot and then rolling said clad ingot to produce a sheet article. The core ingot includes an element that diffuses from an interior of the ingot to a surface at superplastic forming temperatures thereby deteriorating surface properties of the ingot. The cladding layer is provided with an element (dopant) that reacts with the element of the core to reduce the ability of the element to diffuse through the cladding layer.

Abstract: A process of manufacturing aluminum can body stock involving the following steps. A molten aluminum alloy is prepared, the alloy containing Mg in the range 1.1 to 1.5% by weight, Mn in the range 0.4 to 0.9% by weight, Cu in the range 0.2 to 0.4% by weight, Fe in the range 0.2 to 0.7% by weight, Si in the range 0.07 to 0.3% by weight, all other elements each less than 0.05% by weight to a maximum of 0.2% for all other elements. The alloy is cast in a continuous strip casting process to produce a slab having a thickness of at least 9 mm. The slab is rolled using at least 83% reduction to produce a re-roll strip. The re-roll strip is coiled to form a coil and the coil to cool is allowed to cool naturally. The re-roll strip is then annealed and cold rolled to a final gauge of between 0.26 and 0.4 mm, using a reduction of between 75 and 85%, with no interanneal. The resulting strip can be used as can body stock having a 45 degree earing of less than 3% and a yield strength after stoving of at least 38.5 ksi (265 MPa).

Abstract: The invention provides an aluminum alloy material consisting essentially of, by weight percent, 1% to 1.8% Cu, 0.8% to 1.4% Mg, 0.2% to 0.39% Si, 0.5% to 0.4% Fe, 0.05% to 0.40% Mn, with the balance aluminum with normal impurities. The alloy forms two precipitation phases during heat treatment and age hardening: a beta phase of Mg.sub.2 Si and an S' phase of Al.sub.2 CuMg. The alloy has improved formability without significant sacrifice of strength, and is particularly suited to be formed into automobile sheet metal parts such as hood lids, trunks lids, and fenders.

Abstract: The descaling of surface of processing equipment, vessels and piping on which scale, such as that which occurs in the extraction of alumina from bauxites has formed. The surface is cleaned to ensure that it is entirely free of contaminants and then is coated with a suitable resin such as an epoxy resin which is cross linked and thermosetting. The coating may be applied in two or more layers using the same or a different resin. The final layer may be one which readily detaches from the base coating when subjected to a high pressure fluid blast.
