    摘要: An optical disc drive system is employed in conjunction with a storage medium having a plurality of data sectors each provided with a header and a data storage area. The system includes a data detection device for retrieving stored data from the storage medium and outputting a data signal, an amplifier for providing a variable gain to the data signal and outputting an amplified data signal, a detector that is responsive to the amplified data signal for evaluating a predetermined one of the sectors to ascertain whether the storage area is blank, and an automatic gain control circuit producing a gain control output for controlling the gain of the amplifier. The control circuit has a first mode and a second mode, the first mode being active during retrieval of the header and the second mode being active during retrieval of the data storage area. The system is further provided with a sampling device for sampling the gain control output during retrieval of the stored data in a respective one of the storage areas containing previously stored data. The sampling device outputs results of the sampling, and a fixed gain control circuit is responsive to the results of the sampling for outputting a fixed gain control signal. The fixed gain control signal is applied to the amplifier during evaluation of the predetermined one of the sectors.

    摘要: A device for reading information from or writing information to an optical disc memory system using light from a laser diode includes an upper and lower flexure suspension. Both flexure suspensions are mounted on both an objective lens holder and its base. Each of these flexures is U-shaped and the central part of each leg of the U is a stiff beam. At each end of the control beam is provided a tracking hinge. Outward from the tracking hinges are a pair of focusing hinges which are separated from the tracking hinges by means of spacing beam sections. The unique configuration of the system allows these parallel mounted flexures to move in only two rigid modes namely, displacement along the x-axis (tracking) and displacement along the z-axis (focusing). These two rigid modes allow the objective lens to be re-positioned so that light beams may strike the information medium correctly. The sturdiness of these beam section therefore constrains the four remaining degrees of freedom so that displacement in the y direction, namely tangential motion and rotation in the x, y and z directions, specifically roll, pitch and yaw are severely limited thus essentially eliminated. This feature is paramount in that the possibilities . for undesired skewing of the flexure and the attached objective lens are precluded.

    摘要: An optical disc player/recorder incorporates a laser, and an electromagnetically driven objective lens. The objective lens is mounted to a lensholder which is movable with respect to a base. A single pair of permanent magnets are mounted to the lensholder, and two pair of electromagnetic coils are mounted to the base. The coils and magnets are positioned such that one set of coils is collinear with the direction of magnetization of the permanent magnets and the other set of coils is perpendicular to the direction of magnetization of the magnets. Electromagnetic fields generated by the coils are used to move the objective lens in either a focus direction or a tracking direction. The magnets are mounted on the moveable objective lensholder, while the coils are attached in a heat-sink relationship to the fitted base. The objective lens rests on top of the objective lensholder which is suspended with respect to the base by a pair of flexures. A mirror is provided between the flexures to allow incoming laser light to enter from the side of the optical head, thereby reducing the total overall height of the system. A position sensor may be provided to detect the position of the lensholder, relative to the base of the two axis electromagnetic actuator.

    摘要: An optical disc system for storing information on a medium includes a light source, a focusing mechanism, and a tracking mechanism wherein the mechanisms are controlled by a feedback loop and the focusing mechanism focuses light emitted by the light source onto the medium to effect writing of information thereon. The system is provided with an electronic circuit for generating a servo error signal that is communicated in the feedback loop for effecting corrections of the focusing mechanism and the tracking mechanism. The system is further provided with a driver for energizing the light source, a bias coil disposed proximate to the medium, a bias coil driver switchably connected to the bias coil for supplying an electric current thereto, a current monitoring circuit connected to the bias coil driver having an output responsive to the electric current, and a controller connected to the output of the current monitoring circuit and to the driver. The controller thereby enables the driver when the output of the current monitoring circuit exceeds a predetermined magnitude so that information processed through the focusing mechanism is written onto the medium when the electric current flowing in the bias coil exceeds a threshold.
