A folding rear seat for vehicles, especially passenger vehicles and station wagons, includes a folding seat back and a height-adjustable neck support mounted on the seat back. The neck support is mounted on at least one support rod that supports a padded head rest and is held such that it can shift axially within a guide in the seat back. The head rest can be retracted from a temporary vertical position to a minimum possible distance between the padded head rest and the seat back in order to allow the seat back to be folded down. To ensure that the seat back can be folded down completely without removal of the neck support, and to ensure the automatic return of the neck support to a legally prescribed minimum vertical position for the padded head rest, the guide mechanism is formed by at least one guide sleeve that holds the support rod such that it can shift axially, and a spring element is positioned between the guide sleeve and the support rod, such that the spring is first tensed by the support rod when the vertical position of the neck support is reduced from the prescribed minimum vertical position for the padded head rest to the minimum possible distance, by force of pressure.

The self-locking revolute joint which can be step by step adjustable to an angle by means of pumping movements of an activation lever is particularly suitable for adjustment of seat height or backrest inclination of vehicle seats. It has a mount in which a bearing shaft is journalled. Further, it has a locking disk with notches arranged at equal angular intervals and with a torsion-proof connection with the bearing shaft; further a locking element which is preferably journalled with turning capability at the mount, also having a locking tooth confunctioning with the notches and being elastically prestressed in the engagement direction of this locking tooth and having a total of two control profiles, each one of which has a release profile and an unblocking indentation, the distance between which corresponds to the angular intervals between the notches, and confunctioning with carriers, which can be adjusted by means of the activating lever. Thereby, a return spring is assigned to the activation lever, prestressing the latter into the central position.The activation lever has a rigid connection with an activation plate, which is journalled to turn freely with the bearing shaft. On the activation plate, around a linkage axle, a release segment is linked so that it can be freely turned, having two carriers arranged symmetrically to the line connecting the linkage axle and the axis of the bearing shaft, being prestressed by means of a return spring into a neutral position, in which both carriers are disengaged from the notches and these carriers are arranged so that after a turning away from the neutral position, one of the carriers engages in one notch, while the other impacts on the adjacent release profile of the locking element and unlocks it.

A frame and a supporting structure are connected and hinge-jointed to each other by front and rear parallelogram arms. At least one diagonal locking brace is hinged on one side to one of the frame, the supporting structure and one of the parallelogram arms, and on an other side is guided by a tranverse part in a longitudinal guide. A locking segment has at least one holding notch to accommodate the transverse part, with flanks extending transversely to the longitudinal guide and a handle for releasing the tranverse part from the holding notch. The handle extends over a region of a front surface of the child seat.

A seatbelt lock is mounted to be movable as little as possible relative to the seat surface when the seat surface is adjusted in height or inclination. The seat has a longitudinal guide 20, 22, a device 24 for adjustment of height or inclination and a belt lock attachment 32. The lower end of the belt lock attachment 32 is affixed to the seat rail 22 of the longitudinal guide and carries a belt lock 34 at its upper end. The belt lock attachment has a lower part 38 linked to the seat rail and an upper part 40 linked to the seat carrier 26, the upper part being connected with the belt lock. One of these parts 38, 40 can move freely in a longitudinal guide formed by the other part. One part has at least one locking projection 60; and the other part has locking devices 46 interacting with the projection. By means of a safety piece 50, the two parts are held in a normal position permitting movement. When extreme forces induced during an accident act on the belt, the safety piece is overridden, whereby the locking projection engages in the locking device and removed of the upper part from the lower part is precluded.
